This looks absolutely incredibly for any of the old school fans including myself who want them to do something that goes back to their roots

Already pre ordered. The HD 2D pixel art is so beautiful

This is the game all of us have been asking for that have beeen with series for decades. I’ll make a post breaking down some of the elements later in this thread don’t have time atm have to take the wife to church but man this looks so good

It’s pretty cool they’re implying at the end you will be able to in some way come across methods of summoning characters like Cloud Lightning and Noctis to add to the others they showed like shiva and Odin and Bahamaut

I couldnt find the game on the ps store yet but i went to SQE website and you can preorder there by putting in your psn name and going through check out and it showed up then inside my library as preordered on PlayStation. Weird

The base edition is 49.99

IT also is coming to xbox and switch idk about pc

ETA: yes it is a steam launch as well

For those curious about what actually comes in the deluxe edition for 59.99 since it doesn’t explain it well

.Archwitch's Grimoire: A unique item that unlocks a specific character's Fel Meteor Limit Burst.

Mastery Ring: An accessory to boost character progression.

Consumable Starter Kit: Includes Tents, Mist Potions, Mist Ethers, Phoenix Downs, and Remedies.

And the preorder gift for any version includes

Squire Kickstart Pack, which includes the Blessed Cuirass (increases gil earned in battle) and one Mist Ether.

Definitely interested in this. Especially if it can evoke the same sort of spirit as the old snes era games.

I like this engine but I haven’t been super excited about the octopath or dragon quest games that have utilized it so far.

Octopath 2 was great in almost all areas except I’m just not a really big fan of how those two games deliver there narratives

This game is actually a remake in a way.

“Final Fantasy Brave Exvius (FFBE) was a popular free-to-play mobile RPG from Square Enix, known for its classic Final Fantasy elements, original story, and gacha system for summoning characters, which ended service in late 2024 (global) and late 2025 (Japan).”

They’re taking brave exvious which I obviously never played because it’s a mobile gacha game and turning it into a full fledged single player final fantasy game on the octopath engine along with all that entails

The game was very popular and drew high praise in particular for its story.

It looks like in this game instead of other final fantasy main characters like we are shown in the trailer Lightning, Cloud, Squall, and Noctis rather than being gacha items you spent money on they’re going to be worked into the story proper as summons, which I think is a really neat idea, especially because we saw a handful of classic summons in the trailer too like Chocobo, Bahamaut, Odin, and Shiva.

I think the story has some kind of thing going on where all of the final fantasy worlds are having some sort of confluence of sorts due to the whatever shananigans the villains are up too and the crystals where keeping all of them in their proper reality or whatever with things on track.

It might have ties to Dissidia too in a way I’m not sure like I said never played it only heard bits about it but Dissidia is another game that’s got this confluence of main FF characters to it

It’s a very novel take on the age old story of heroes saving crystals and a very very rare GOOD idea by SQE these days to take a gacha game where everyone loved the story so much and how it brought all final fantasy together and turn it into a an actual HD 2D pure turn based game which is a first, the HD part, stripping it of its mobile manipulation mechanics and making and true to form classic final fantasy game so many of us have wanted for a long long long time

For those curious or concerned about game length because octopath could be quite short out your fears to bed my friends. They have said the main plot line is a 40 hour adventure with all content taking somewhere between 60 and upwards of 80+ hours

I played through that when it was a mobile app called "Final Fantasy Brave Exvius." Great storyline.

When I started playing, they were doing a promotion with Ariana Grande where you got her as a unit for free. That ridiculous promotion unit carried my team for the first few chapters of the game.

It does look fantastic, this is what the ff7 remakes should have been.

I have no idea what this game will be like but Octopath 0 was a pleasant surprise given it's origins as a mobile game.

It's so frustrating though. Is it so hard to give us a full fledged Final Fantasy title in this exact style

This game is picking up a lot of steam like a snow ball rolling down hilll. No one knew what it was when they just randomly announced it

Since then we have gotten A LOT more information about it.

This is not just simply a touched up remake of brave exvius that strips the gatcha mechanics

They used that story as the bones to essentially give many people what they’ve been begging for for over a decade, a FF game designed like they were in its golden era.

As I’ve said before usually with SQE games and other JRPGs I will know someone who has played it or did QA and I do here as well. He has played the final build and told me this game IS of an extremely high bar of quality that stands on par with the mainline games.

He said it really is on all purposes game design related a spiritual successor to FF6.

So you can take it for what it is worth but I have a good track record of when I hear things. Go check the Clair Obscur thread where I knew it would be GOTY 2 weeks before it even launched

This game is perfectly safe to preorder

Warning IMO FFBE did not have a good story. I am surprised at anybody saying it did. Especially the early chapters which this game is based on. There is not much to it.

I will play with that said. I like everything else.

Never played the game myself so I can’t say one of way or another the quality of its plot but it does seem your opinion is in the minority, not that there is anything wrong with that is subjective

As I posted above though this isn’t a 1 for 1 remake of it. It’s basically just using its bones. Again from what I’ve been told, which is just one person who had some info, they take big liberties with altering the plot with the biggest reason having to in many respects due to the removal of the gatcha mechanics

I don't understand how. It starts off very generic in the early chapters. Nothing that has not been done a 100 times and eventually spirals into nonsense.

My hope is that they rewrote as much as possible.

It's kind of a bummer because they are finally working on a throwback game but using a bad base imo. Seems like the assets are the reason to me, I don't care how they are advertising it.

You think they’re re using assets from the mobile game and just upgrading them to the 16 bit HD instead of creating entirely new ones?

I have no idea if they are or not, but it would be disappointing if they didn’t build new ones.

I will say the art work looks so beautiful and I’ve seen has exvius art looked especially it’s character models and I’m not sure you could upscale them in any possibility to get the new look ones

But I’m just speculating I have no idea how the process of doing it is done.

But yeah like I said, and when I post things here I’ve been told I have I good rate of being accurate the story was described to me from one guy I know who played the final build fairly recently doing bug searches as

“Taking the bones of Exvius and fairly heavily altering the plot”

Meaning the beginning of the game and its base foundation is in tact, however all that flows from that should be changed outright in some places and altered some in others

As somebody who has played FFBE, yes. The sprite work is almost identical if it is not identical. For all the characters including the OG FF and enemies.
The animations were all reused.

They did add the 3D octopath look

I wonder how much the games budget was?

IMO I think SQE is running an experiment of sorts here.

I think FF17 is going to be made by business unit 1, as their reward for mining away in the FF7 remake mines for 10 years and proving their ability to come in on time and on budget.

This means the game is at most in nominal pre production concept phase.

So while they wait to come up with what ff17 will be it’s my opinion they’re using this game to really get as clear a picture they can of how big the audience is who has been demanding something like this since FF12 and that answer will have ripple effects into 17.

Id bet they kept the budget really low

Octopath 2 cost 15 million. This seems like it’s a bit more involved so likely no more than 20 million
