Cool. How does 14 compare to 15?

One is an MMO, one isn't.

What’s with the bump? I’ve never played 14, but did they just add a bunch of content or something?

The new expansion adds two new jobs and a new 40 hour main story continuation. Lots of other new content, but that's the easiest summary. Better to bump this than start a whole new thread imo.

I'm now nearly 75. Wasn't able to play as much as a I wanted, but I've also got kids now that I didn't have when Stormblood launched. So it's to be expected.

So..got early access...Unlocked dancer....been running old content to lvl it. Have not even touch new content haha..but im lvl 69 so im close.

Few things:

Dancer is an amazing class and super fun to play. The removal of TP is just a god send for dps. A legit AoE godsend.

Actually thats all I have to play since I havent hit new content but i have heard this is the best expansion yet and that gets me excited.

73 on a similarly casual pace. Enjoying the climb.

Story and ambiance of the First is really top notch - feels like a true FF game with FANTASY back at the forefront. And it absolutely doesn't feel like a 3rd MMO expansion in which the lore commonly starts to get too out there - feels like they're executing on a story long laid out. I think it's working because I care way more about the First than Ala Mhigo or Doma.

Ask me when I get to endgame and can see the job balance for myself but everything in the build so far is the high water mark I was hoping it would be.

And Soken has really outdone himself with the score. If he wasn't tied to one game he'd be universally revered for the maestro he is. His versatility is just stupid.

Breh. He is a mad man. Heard the omega soundtrack for the first time yesterday and was jamming.

The new areas are far more interesting than Stormblood areas. While I don't necessarily like the overall plotline (and its little impact on the plot as a whole), the pieces are individually far more interesting. Nothing in SB is half as interesting as the Eulmore dynamic.

I agree, the variety is truly impressive. I don't think all of the pieces have quite fit their areas, but they're great to listen to and I haven't substituted my own music in yet.

I haven’t gotten to play into it much but I do like the First and the idea of the way the plot is going - idk what they end up doing with it since someone said they didn’t like its arc.

But yeah I had the same feelings as someone else about really wanting to getting to know this world, so much more than the Stormblood areas.

I haven't played since before Stormblood. Keep wanting to jump back in but feel like I would be so lost.

Nahh fam. Just watch some videos to catch up. Stormblood was a bit of a dull and just more empire bullshite.

I was say that Shadowbringers is FXIV's peak and standard for now. I feel like its so good I don't know how it can get any better. I can stand for fricking hours in Norvrandt/amh araeng listing to the overworld music.

The story is so refreshing and dark and kind of stands on its own.I feel like you can jump right in a have a good time. NPC's have much more life and the characters have grown.

You should. You'll have some main story quests from where you left off to get caught back up on the main plot.

Besides that, the Shadowbringers content doesn't have a ton to do with the conflict in Eorzea.

I'm seriously considering it. Have you played with the new jobs yet?

I have not. I wanted to wait because I thought I'd be too tempted to level them.

I’ve only tanked some as a Dark Knight so I didn’t try Gunbreaker but as a Bard main, I’m loving the new Dancer job. I’ve gotten it up to 72 with my bard and now I’m using it for runs; idk if it’ll replace bard for me but it’s definitely making a run for it. I like the damage output (almost like a melee and ranged) as well as the buffs you can administer.

I just got to the last zone at 79 and I think I've only teleported to Eorzea once since early access. Norvandt has me by the balls.

I hopped out to only say hi to a friend who was on really old content.

New zones are still great.

Finished the MSQ early this AM. Prepare for Baelsar's Wall (of text).

The first part of the last zone I wasn't sure what to think (certainly compared to the prior 5 zones), but once you realize it's mere set-up for a bombshell ride, it's one of the most emotionally riveting conclusions I can recall in all my years of gaming. The sequence of final location + final dungeon + final trial + final cinematics is just...wow.

That dungeon in particular is incredible. What you're actually watching transpire (and the final third is straight bonkers), and what you're hearing via the A+ score and eerie voice-over is straight feels.

14 already had best-in-class MMO storytelling, but Shadowbringers IMO brings it towards the top of Final Fantasy and gaming in general. Everything Final Fantasy should (and used to) be. Best MMO xpac I've been a part of in general.

Highlights for me:
- Apocalyptic and dire vibes with great pacing throughout. Part FFX for the general dystopia, part FFXIII for a run in the story that mirrors the plight of a l'Cie.
- Maintains the perfect MMO expansion dynamic of experiencing a totally new world, but without feeling like you're on a side-story adventure (a common MMO occurrence a few expansions in as the initial stories conclude - see Pandaria). The story in the new world directly impacts the future of everything you know. Tough to balance those concepts but really well done.
- Characters (particularly the Scions) have real depth. The voice acting has also gotten to be pretty good. Obviously there is somewhat of a low bar for FF games in general with so many awkward English dubs, but it's legit good on its own. On that note, the English localization team deserves tremendous props.
- Stellar multi-layered primary antagonist. To hate him, understand him, and feel sad for him simultaneously is tremendous development.
- Music. Jesus. This sentiment is true with Yoshi P and all of the development team in general, but I explictly want to grab Soken to just stuff cash down his throat. I don't want it to come at the expense of impaired 14 quality but I want him putting out as much music elsewhere as he's capable of.
- Managed to throw our understanding of the universe (and the possibly the very nature of the WoL!) upside down but in a way that makes total sense. They clearly had this exact story in mind from the beginning.
- Minfilla -> Alphie -> Lyse -> Exarch. That's my kind of progression.

No game is perfect (healers definitely need to be better balanced) but I had sky high hype train expectations and Yoshi P still surpassed them. As a casual I obviously won't be playing daily for the next 2 years until the next expansion, but the MSQ on its own was worth the xpac buy and ongoing sub.

Interested to see how the two "new" lead antagonists are tackled throughout 5.x. I feel like it's far too early to dispose of one, but I think the other has to be taken care of before 6.x.

It sad that this story will be lost to many not willing to pay for it. Yoshi P and staff have done a wonderful job with the community. Sure there are things that could be better but at least it’s not blizzard.

I was wondering if I was alone in my original sentiment that it was among the greatest MMO expansions in history. 9.2 metacritic from both the critics AND users is incredible.

Have never seen 14 with this much reception and attention before. It really does just get better with age. Optimistic that new players will understand it's worth the paywall.
