I did not like 9 at all.

VIII has an "ok" story but probably the worst combat system

VII is vastly superior to both IMO

VII has a great story but has not aged very well and lack of analog control is frustrating. But it is a classic and not to be missed.

VIII probably has the best story of the three but the draw system that combat is based on is a grind.

IX is the best balance between the VII and VIII, story is okay, combat and magic system are awesome and the game actually holds up to today's standards. (In my opinion)

I've played both. I would say just for nostalgia purposes VII is my favorite, but I do love IX. Vivi is one of my favorite final fantasy characters of all time.

Have played all three,

If you can play VII do it. There is a reason it is considered one of the best games ever made.

I envy you. I wish I could go through VII and VIII for the first time again.

Haha, I had to play VII a few times to fully grasp the story. That story has so much depth. It's easily my favorite game of all time.

I was never impressed with VII, I loved IX, and I've never played VIII.

X is still the best.

You should give it a try. Everyone complains about the Draw system in the game, but it really is a good game with a crazy ending.

Did you ever beat VII? What about it did you not like?

i can tolerate the graphics, but did not realize no analog control, that might be a problem

played 7 when I was little, but don't really remember it too much and used i cheated by using action replay to give me constant limit breaks. so i didn't really "experience" the game

So you think VIII is a great game?

Reviews I have seen have been pretty mixed. If you think its good, I'll probably give it a shot one day.

btw VI is awesome. I see why many say its the best of the FFs.

what RPG did you end up deciding on to play during the break?

You should without a doubt play VII all the way through. Its definitely one of 3 RPGs that really impacted my love for the genre (the others being Chrono Trigger and Earthbound).

Also, I really liked VIII. Like I said, most people hated the Draw system, but it wasn't like it ruined the game. The card game in it was really fun as well.

I ended up playing FF III again over the break. I'm at the AtmaWeapon and struggling.

VIII is great. The story is one of the better and the combat is fine. The draw system is weird but not bad at all. Story is really the bread and butter.

I've only ever put a few hours into it every time I've tried to pick it up, actually. But I didn't play it for the first time until a few years ago and as others have said, I don't think it aged very well

I started from the beginning.

Just curious, have you ever played Earthbound for the SNES?

yes. I own it actually. I only played it once as a kid but got stuck at some part around 5-10 hours in. i think i was supposed to travel to some other town or something but couldnt figure out how to get there. ....or something like that. dont remember really, just know that I wasted so much time trying to figure it out and eventually gave up.
