My thoughts on 3 and 4 are similar to yours. I played a remastered edition of 3 and the combat controls just felt clunky. 4 was much smoother.

My issues with 6 is how generic the storyline and characters are. There are 3 regions like 5 that have sub-bosses and I found all of them pretty blah. I couldn't tell you much of anything about the bosses and your character is just a generic rebel with a generic story arc. Even Esposito is wasted as the main villain because his role is pretty cookie cutter.

The sub-bosses in 5 were all interesting and unique. The cult setup was far more interesting for me as a storyline. Similarly, 4 gives you the family dynamic with Pagan Min and an interesting moral choice between allying with a theocracy or a narco-state.

That's also where the massive size of 6 hurts it, IMO. The storyline is kind of lacking, and having so many side missions just made it feel directionless and bloated for me.

There's nothing inherently flawed with 6 and if you like Far Cry style combat, you'll get lots of it.

I liked all the Far Cry's although I never played the caveman one. Didn't really peak my interest.

I've been on a Far Cry kick over the holidays. Finally finished 3 and started 4. I finished 5 a while back. 4 is the first one that I've played at a leisurely pace because the setting is so beautiful. The menu setup seems to be a lot better/more streamlined than 5, and I'm enjoying the little copter. I've tried playing 2 several times and just can't get into it.

3 was probably my favorite game of 2012. Spent a lot of time playing it along with Blops 2 (campaign and mp) and Guild Wars 2. Top 10 score for a game too. Loved that music.

Post your thoughts on it. I’m on the fence whether I should download and play it next.

This is probably just a restatement of previous posts, but if you've only played and liked 5, I'd recommend going with 4 before 6.

4's got a good setting, story and villain, a ton of content without being too much content and good weapons and combat. In all those areas, it's better than 6.

I played FC3 a while back and enjoyed it well enough, so when I saw the entire series deeply discounted on Steam, this thread inspired me to take the leap for 4 and 5. If it turns out to be a $15 mistake, oh well

It's a lot. I enjoy the multiple ways you can take down bases, but it's too many activities for an fps.

Stick to the story as much as possible.

BTW absolutely worth it on game pass

I got 6 for free and couldn't finish it.

It's BAD.

Played 5 via game pass for free and loved it. Got 6 for like $10-15 and while it was solid, it did not compare to 5, imo.

5 is my favorite Farcry. 6 is ok but not worth 60 bucks. It's free on game pass now.

I've tried desperately to get into 6 and something about it doesn't click. Might be right, it's just too big. According to the Ubisoft Launcher, I'm 75%? Not sure if that's of the main story or the game in general, but every time I decide "I'm just going to finish this" I fall off pretty fast. There are fun things to do in the game but no idea why I can't stick with it.

FC5 is GOAT. By far my favorite. I liked New Dawn up until the end of it when I decided I didn't want to grind weapons and companions just to finish the final 2 fights. FC4 is fun but serious map barf. FC3 is pretty dated in a sense but go back to it and see if you agree with me that it has the best shooting mechanics in the series. I fired it up a while back just to finally finish it and was surprised at how good the shooting felt.

I like 5 the best, but I actually think 4 is the best for shooting and combat mechanics. It felt smoother than 3 in both areas and the stealth is better for me than 5.

With 4 too, I like that you have some ridiculously overpowered weapons like the buzzsaw to play with if you want. On some of the missions where you get waves of heavies, having the buzzsaw is so fun because you can just start blowing them out of their shoes.

Overall, though, the gunplay is a strength of the series. The baseline is really high for shooting mechanics.

It's one of the reasons I co-oped all the way through 6 despite the story being underwhelming and the game feeling bloated. The base Far Cry combat is fun and the choices in taking down outposts guns blazing or by stealth might get repetitive...but they're always kind of fun.

One of my favorite things to do in any Far Cry game is in 6. I'm in a helicopter, there's a region protected by anti aircraft artillery, I come in low below radar as best as possible, fly up to the system, rise up with guns and rockets blazing to take them out. It's never not fun.

Far Cry 6 also has a hilarious cameo (taco mission). Dude's just hanging out making tacos.

I think 6 is the worst I've played, but what you're saying is the reason why Far Cry games are almost always solid fun even in the games that aren't your favorite.

The best thing about Far Cry is that just about every mission and objective allow you to choose how to play it. Infiltrate with stealth, rain down fire, or anything in between.

It's a good base. Except for a few forced stealth missions or waves of enemies missions, basically the entire game leaves it up to the player to go at it however they want.

Holy shite this game feels like it has too much shite

FC5 could get pretty crazy with how much shite was going on all at once, took a while to get used to. First hour of the game I'm walking up a hill and hear a lady screaming for help, I run over and she and her dog are being attacked by Peggies. I kill them and she thanks me, then out of nowhere a cougar attacks us all and the dog and cougar start fighting. I killed the cougar and then it was calm for about two seconds and then we all got attacked by a turkey.
