Was watching an asmongold clip where he points out how ridiculous the top scar thing is that I didn’t think of. Basically he’s making the point that it’s a fantasy world where magic can change you into other stuff. Typically you have a polymorph spell or something similar. Hell they even did it in Harry Potter. So why would you have scars for that?

Also, just the fact that most people that have scars really would rather not even have them to begin with unless it makes you look like a badass. And if you’re a trans person that’s gone through that surgery, would you really want a constant reminder of who you used to be if you really deep down think you’re the opposite sex?

It’s just a really bizarre creative decision

I mean, realism in a fantasy game is a funny angle.

But since you brought up Harry Potter and scars...

Wtf are you talking about?

Seems like it’s more the EA devs that are trying to push realism into a fantasy game with “top scars”

Your example was Harry Potter, where 3 of the more prominent characters have scars, even though they have the magic.

My example with Harry Potter was referring to a polymorph spell

The basis of his argument is there wouldn't be scars in a fantasy world because of spells.

That you wouldn’t have to have scars if there was a spell that could remove them. Hell you might even just have a spell that could turn your dick into a vagina and make your breasts disappear.

But no, they are just forcing realism into the game by making people have top surgeries that leave scars

Oh, they're forcing you to have them on your character?

That's pretty shitty.

Not myself, because I won’t be getting this game that they “nailed.” But the people that choose to have those scars on their character are going with the backstory that they had their tits lopped off with a knife

This is an option in the game that I'm sure very few people are going to use, and when it comes out and it's as good as these reviews say it seems like so far, no one is going to remember this because they'll be hyper focused on the next thing they decided to rage on.

If it's not good, this will just be something for everyone to blame it on.

I have seen little to no advertising/marketing for this game.

Seems somewhat odd.

I agree that the top scar option and character customization in general will likely be a minor thing that contributes to this game not doing well if that indeed ends up happening. There’s a lot of other things that don’t look good to me and most of them have already been mentioned in this thread.

Personally, I haven’t played DA since the first one which I liked a lot and played through twice. I remember the 2nd being pretty divisive when it came out so I skipped it. I bought inquisition when it was on sale after hearing it being pretty good but never got around to playing it. This one, it looks like I’m just gonna skip.

You are comparing scars from battle/intentional force by others to scars from wounds intentionally inflicted on oneself, and somehow you don't seem to understand the difference.

A woman who lops her boobs off so she can LARP as a man would absolutely take a "scarless top surgery" option if it existed. It makes no sense for such scars to exist in a world where there is obviously a method for them not to exist.

The distinction doesn't make a difference. A scar is a scar. That guy wasn't making a distinction.

So you're saying if this fantasy world, you get a scar through combat, you would just leave it even though you had the means to make it go away?

I really enjoy these really sad "hold no water" arguments you guys come up with to justify your pointless outrage.

I really enjoy how you exist on here as the super stereotypical progressive who believes he holds the “moderate” position.

Ignoring the trans aspect, because I genuinely don’t care. But I do want to address the assertion that “it’s a fantasy world with magic and there doesn’t need to be scars” bit. Every fantasy world is different. DA certainly has shape shifting, etc, but as far as I know, that’s always temporary. Some fantasy worlds have flesh sculpting magic, but I’m not aware of that in DA. And as a point of order, Cullen had quite the face scar that it strains credulity to assert he wouldn’t have cleaned up if he could have:

Call me whatever. There's this misconception that if I'm not bothered by something that I approve of it. Guys with ponytails offend me more than this, so I'd prefer that be left out of character creation, personally.

I get more annoyed at how many threads I've started that always turn into this shite. This one, especially, feeling it would be encouraging to the DA fanbase who were concerned about what they had seen/heard so far, but here we are again.

frick off, proof. I'm not getting into the weeds of what a trans scar is. That trash bag steamer made a stupid argument, that's it.

of course not.

I’d love to hear you mansplain to your mother and the mother of your children that “a scar is a scar” when in reference to a mentally ill woman giving themselves a double mastectomy so they can pretend to be a dude. no big deal. “a scar is a scar.”

woof.
