TMZ: 'Madden' Removing CPR Touchdown Celebration In Wake Of Damar Hamlin Emergency

quote:

The CPR touchdown celebration in the Madden video game franchise will be no more ... TMZ Sports has learned EA Sports is in the process of removing the animation in wake of the Damar Hamlin emergency last week.

A spokesperson for the gaming giant tells us ... the virtual end zone dance will be taken away as part of an update to "Madden NFL 23" in the next few days.

The celebration has been a popular one amongst gamers this year -- as it allowed players who scored TDs to pretend they were in need, while other avatars raced in to administer CPR in an effort to "revive" them.

Many, however, are now finding the animations to be insensitive and crass ... considering Hamlin actually needed the life-saving efforts during the Bills vs. Bengals game last Monday night.

It's like our entire society is run by old ladies at a daycare center.

The “just do something” school of public relations.

Solves nothing, but it makes the mentally inept feel good for a second.

Maybe not, but what I've learned with parenting is "find ways to say yes". You'll have to say no to a lot but some of this stuff isn't going to matter all that much in the long run, so as a business move, even if it's a small demographic that doesn't like it and it's not a huge issue for you, why not?

you are correct not to believe me, i wont miss it. i don’t play Madden this year because the franchise has somehow decided to improve and change at a slower rate despite its critics calling them out for being a copy/paste franchise. (i get it, sales tho).

I just find the move silly, excessive, and reactionary. He didn’t die. He was released from the hospital today and is home. Do you think he would want the celebration itself removed from the game of football or Madden?

Hell No. So why do it if the person who actually was harmed in that situation takes no offense to it? So who exactly is offended by it? And should they be more offended than Hamlin? If so, there’s something wrong with them mentally. You know why and i don’t have to spell it out for you, but the acronym would be V.S.

there’s enough of that everywhere all the time as is. This is a video game.

The greatest video game response to an injury on a video game. First you would hear Pat Summerall say "Oh no, there`s a man down", then the siren and the ambulance running over players on the field.

Who was calling for its removal? Anyone? Why shouldn’t they just frick right off? Also frick EA for dragging their feet on making any truly meaningful or positive change to this product in years and then springing on this horseshite.

yeah, there’s the irony.

Madden: slow to change anything about the gameplay. quick to signal them virtues.

ETA:
and FWIW I’m not trying trap sicboy into this convo, nor did i start this thread to stir shite up. It’s the GB, I’ll keep it civil. We’re all gaming bro’s here. And I honestly do agree with his children antidote, in a sense. As a father of a 2 year old, I understand picking your battles. But again, this one just seemed almost petty and reactionary as a cheap publicity stunt that accomplished nothing.

I think they're reading the room as well. I think a team did that celebration this weekend and got skewered for it. I think if they had removed it and not said anything about it, no one would have missed it, so in my opinion if someone gets upset about this they are looking for reasons to get upset.

Yeah, he didn't die, but watching that unfold live shook everyone. So you can't blame people for being sensitive around the subject.

i watched it live. it sucked and my heart goes out to him. but we will have to agree to disagree on Madden’s handling of it.

Just like someone getting upset over a video game so much they demand it being changed?

Just stop being pussies and letting everything offend you.

I honestly don't know, was there a huge outcry for this to be removed, or was EA just being proactive?

ETA I know most celebrations are kind of nonsense anyways, but I thought about this one a little today and I honestly don't get the point of it.

It’s EA, the same company that added trannys and cyborgs to game set during World War II. I expect nothing less than for them to virtue all the signals.

Just another example of how the team doesn't care about making the core game better, just updating the coat of paint.
