In a document filed with the SEC Thursday, the “Battlefield 6” and “The Sims” publisher disclosed: “As of July 30, 2026, all regulatory approvals required to complete the Merger have been obtained. Electronic Arts currently expects the Merger to close on or about the close of trading on August 4, 2026. Completion of the Merger remains subject to the satisfaction or waiver of the remaining customary closing conditions set forth in the Merger Agreement.”

Can private equity make EA worse?

If anyone can, private equity can.

I hear all the commie kids talk about "end stage" capitalism. This might just be it.

If they put me in charge of EA and gave me carte blanche to try to make money I'd exploit the sportsball gamers to the maximum extent.
They have proven to be the least discerning consumers on the planet. They pay full price the exact same game every single year. There are tons of people who buy a say PS5 just to specifically play those games and not much else.
Charge $100 annually for the new Madden/FIFA/whatever, make it also $10 a month subscription based service to keep access. Sell $5 a day pay to win "boosts" to make your players slightly better, stackable, no limit.

There's money to be made from dudebros. Madden, NBA, COD, Battlefield. Same game every year. I remember that's all my friends ever played. If I mentioned something like Metal Gear or Zelda, they looked at me like I had a dick hanging from my forehead

Might be one decent game out of these every couple years. I at least enjoy the story missions from COD. Haven't played a Battlefield game in a long time. I loathe sports games.

True. Many of them have epic storylines. This is a very uncontroversial viewpoint. World War II and World at War are two of my favorites.
Just too short to justify purchasing the games outside of a deep, deep discount. Definitely not worth purchasing every year.

I can't wait for inshallahfield. Take control of a brave squad of fresh faced pilots as they take on the greatest mission of their lives on a fateful day in September.

It’s been hilarious watching The Sims community melt over this. For those of you not aware, The Sims has become woke as frick in almost every possible way the last decade or so. To the point the game is broken because all they focus is adding things to be “inclusive” and they ignore fixing the game.
So naturally, they are melting over Saudi Arabia buying EA because they likely will shut down all that crap.

I don't know. I thought people were down on the Sims because it has like 10,000 dollars worth of DLC available for purchase. That'll only get worse now
