yeah im not much of a knee jerker when it comes to nerfs. ive been at this shite too long to cry over little things.
but this nerf/patch...its epic.
decreased exp gains
universal damage drops
universal armor drops
increase farming time
monster scaling harder with groups
increased run times for dungeons
less loot
increases non-sensical item roll pools
adding in more elemental resistance stats when they admitted it broken
.....
i mean damn, what did they think was going to happen. i was really giving blizzard benefit of doubt on this one and was pretty happy with how they have been up until this.
season 1 playthrough was already borderline for me since the mechanic they are adding is kinda meh. i'll watch this campfire for sure though. i want to watch them squirm.

i think they are waiting to friday to see what the player counts look like thursday for the season one launch to determine what, if anything, they roll back or change

I was downvoted horribly in this thread before I bought the game for suggesting it looks like D3 all over again and the same folks are now shitting on everything

Yeah if you think it's just D3 skinned you're so far off it's not worth a response.
Just bumping this

Look man if you think for a second this launch is even close to 3s launch we can't even talk about it.

There were no fixes in this patch
That's very disingenuous considering all the changes they made season 0. They made many fixes just because most recent changes were nerfs, doesn't mean they did fix anything from season 0.

After some thought and reading the patch notes over a few times...
I think Blizzard is sticking to their design vision, and the metrics they've reviewed for the preseason do not match that vision. I'm fine with them resetting the table heading into the seasonal phase.
It sounds like Blizzard wants a more difficult game, hence the defense changes. I don't think they expected as many people to complete tier 100 nightmare dungeons and defeat Uber Lilith. If that's the game they want, I'll see how it plays. PoE did something similar about a year ago to curb many years of powercreep. At least Blizzard didn't wait that long.
They fixed bugs that resulted in unintended damage spikes on select skills. That's good. Vulnerable and critical strike damage felt mandatory. They were reduced while other damage affixes were buffed. I think that's okay. The mystery chests in Helltides offered far more loot than their cost. It trivialized every other chest. Increasing the cost makes sense. They added item level caps to facilitate trading and alt farming. That's good. Nightmare dungeon loot drop chances were increased. No complaints about that. They're increasing Tree of Whisper rewards. I'm happy about that.
From a class perspective, rogue and druid are still strong. Necromancer is solid. Barbarian is tough to get a read on. Sorcerers look to be the hardest hit.
I'll be rolling a rogue at season's start and see how it plays. If it isn't fun, I can spend my time elsewhere. No big deal.

I'll give it a shot. If it's not still fun, then I won't play it.
Besides, my life is about to be consumed by BG3

its still a damn good game a miles ahead of what D3 was. a questionable patch and changes does not make a bad game. id still recommend it to anyone wanting to play it.

Vulnerable and critical strike damage felt mandatory
And now they are EVEN MORE mandatory because they are in their own damage multiplier
Think of it this way: Lets say you have 10 units of total damage in 4 buckets - the more even the numbers, the higher the total damage when multiplied
See this image I made to explain, the effect of the nerfs is going to make affect diversity worse.
Lets say sum total damage is 10 before and after the patch spread out over 4 buckets of damage that are multiplied against each other in game to determine true damage output:

I've been meaning to do this to get the real impact but haven't had the chance. Appreciate it.
I get what you're saying. I doubt the buffs to other additives is enough to make the change to vulnerable and crit strike damage feel negligible.
I wonder if those nerfs also affect enemies. If so, maybe the damage reduction changes will be less impactful.

As a barb without using guides I already felt overpowered, but I'm only 65 lvl, and am in a weird in between where I'm too strong for all of tier 3 and tier 4 is way too much.
I'm bummed about the patch, but they didn't nerf specific things about the barb that bothered me

So is this game worth playing if I've never played it and haven't purchased it?

Possibly. I'd wait for the heat to die down and then reassess for season 2. Just b/c it is now a less fun for me doesn't mean you won't like it. The only reason I suggest waiting is that I feel like they are going to give players a ton of power back during the seasons in hopes of selling battle passes. Blizzard has claimed this won't be the case but with gaming these days, I dunno
