I don't know how you can call me non-bias. I am solely a PC player, and I absolutely despise (like many non-PS players do) the joystick placement

Bias meaning somebody who grew up on xbox and is used to the joystick placement. Did you not play xbox games back in the day?

This isn't an uncommon take. The DS4 has been rated higher.

For example Forsen streaming Sekiro yesterday was using a DS4 controller, Lirik uses DS4 when playing souls games as well. The sticks are a personal preference.

what kind of price are we talking about if I build one?

I dont need anything fancy, just something that will run games smoothly.

What brand controller should I buy?

If youre gonna go controller route I'd recommend the xbox one controller route. Windows 10 comes with drivers for it already installed and its comfortable
I do recommend going to electronic stores and trying out keyboards to see what you like (sounds a little goofy but you don't want a junk keyboard). I also recommend a mechanical keyboard rather than silicon based, as the keys tend to last longer.

What is a good entry level PC for gaming?

that I don't know, I, like others ITT, built mine. Id say you ought to decide what games youre gonna play, see the recommended/required specs for the game to get an idea of what the computer you want will need. I actually based my components around Doom 2016 (as well as what was on sale) and its been able to handle everything I play really well thus far at higher graphics settings

What do I need to download besides steam?

If you like older games, GOG has some older titles Steam does not have like Ultima.

I have never played an Xbox game on an Xbox in my life. My first exposure to a XBox controller was with PC gaming. But I grew up playing PC and PS.

So yes it is personal preference but I think the Xbox controller is much more comfortable to use. The DS4 hurts my hands after longer gaming sessions

I just recently jumped from PS4 to PC and I built my pc just under 800 bucks. I’m trying to wean myself off of a controller, because that’s all I’ve ever used on console my entire gaming life.

Make sure you tell him that is only the PC part and not peripherals.

a $600 Ryzen 5 and a GPU around $250 will be a good PC
G502, G203, G305, G403, Deathadder Elite, Zowie mice
mechanical keyboard (buy a switch tester or go to Best buy to see which one you like)
There are many aftermarket controllers that have paddles on them if you decide to go that route.
Monitor depends on the games you play and what resolution. Competitive games are 144+ hertz.

I dont anything technically about computers, so I cant really go this route.

1) you'll actually learn about every piece of hardware your PC needs so building your own in incredibly valuable (and a good skill to have)

2) it's easier than you think to build, trust me

(build guide video: LINK ) watch a few of these and you'll be straight, linus tech tips has a ton of build videos

3) you get the parts you want, no half arse pre built parts

4) you can download Windows 10 onto a usb for your initial OS install and run it on a trial, i've been doing that for 2 years and many others do it as well so that'll save you a few bucks

Y'all basically play everything with a keyboard and mouse. How is that compared to a controller?

So much better for shooters and many other games. You get used to it in a few weeks and a few months down the line your aim will feel really smooth. Some games still are better with a controller (Dark Souls for example, even though I kbm that ) and you can hook it up if needed.

Here is the keyboard I'm using, for the price it is amazing and easily could sell for much more. Plus, it's mechanical which everyone obsesses over. Get it. (it's not backlit if you care about that)

LINK

For Monitor, if you want to play competitive games you'll want a 144hz monitor. This is the one I use

LINK

I have a second 4k monitor for some single player games, media, etc.

For a mouse I use the g502 which is really nice but you can search around and see which one you think you'll like. A poster above listed some nice ones.

My buddy did. Shitty polling and shitty switches. It's terrible compared to cherry switches, and even some of the other knock off switches

What's your intended resolution and refresh rate?

1080p 60hz
1080p 144hz
1440p 60hz
1440p 144hz
2160p 60hz

Intel is still king when it comes to gaming but AMD certainly isn't bad.

Smart move, especially if you don't mind mouse and keyboard for games.

So many better games, and so many variation of games for PC

I just have to ambition to play mouse and keyboard, if i wanted to be hooked to a desk, i'd get an office job. I want to sit in the recliner, grab a cold beverage and pound buttons and triggers, not be stuck to a keyboard.

But PC>>>>>>>Console

Also, remember, mods can make some of your older favorites feel like a brand new game.

I have a Merdia with Brown switches for under $40. It's a great mech.

I can do the same thing, comfortably, with a keyboard and mouse

Plus emulators for when you want to play a console game, though that can be a grey area.

I'm sorry your "buddy" had a shitty keyboard. Cherry switches are overrated. I've wasted enough money on them. The other brands are starting to compete thankfully
