re: Confirmed features for Halo Infinite
It’s looking more and more like sprint may be gone in Infinite multiplayer.

Frank O Connor on Twitter, a 343 guy, is hinting it at it being replaced with a higher base movement speed to compensate for the increased pace desired in today’s multiplayer, for the most part.

re: Confirmed features for Halo Infinite
Thank god sprint ruined Halo. Keep it simple. Shooting, grenades, melee. Design good maps and give us a starting weapon capable of taking down power weapons with skill. Make strafing matter again instead of just jetpacking out of battle. Halo 1 shooting mechanics with Halo 2 movement and grenades with Halo 3 art style would be the tits.

Will not touch. 343 sucks dick. 5 was so bad

So was 4.

A different developer needs to take over, 343 blew their chance.

343 obviously doesn't get the SP aspect. The new enemies introduced in Halo 4 had the same AI as the covenant. and then they completely ruined the SP in 5 by shortening the story mode and almost leaving MC out entirely.

I REALLY enjoyed Halo 4, though I didn’t like the drop pods for weapons in MP.

343 seems to understand what they want with Infinite.

I tried really hard to like 4. Wouldn’t be a bad game if you took out drop pods and sprint. Sprint just doesn’t work in Halo.

Yea I'm in the minority but I really liked Halo 4's MP as well. I agree on the drop pods, but me and my friends had a blast playing CTF in 4. Enjoyed it much more than I did 5.

How did sprint ruin halo? To me Halo 5 multiplayer took halo 3 gameplay and improved on it. Is ground pound and spartan charge necessary? No. Is sprint reasonable? Why not. I don’t get the sprint hate.

Having sprint in the game guarantees we won't see the small iconic maps of H2 and H3 days. They just wouldn't work. They would function poorly. More speed = upscaling maps. I'm on board with cutting it out all together and slightly improving base movement speed.

Sprint changes the game completely. Just look how the popularity of the game suffered once sprint was added as well as the MLG scene basically dying with it. 3 straight games tried to "evolve" and failed. Go back to old school Halo and 343 will see the numbers of players skyrocket. Been a Halo fan since CE. Halo CE and 2 were great. Halo 3 was awesome with forge and the multiplayer was good but took a step back then all hell broke lose and the games got worse and worse. I tried really hard to like 4 and 5 but just couldn't do it. 5 improved on the shooting mechanics but no read to add aim down sights and the movement aspect of the game is garbage.

re: Confirmed features for Halo Infinite
Sprint was horribly implemented in 4 to the point where it was game breaking OP. 5 fixed that but added slide bouncing and boosting which made a slower moving setup based mp in 1-3 to an offensive, high flying game in 5. That said 5 is easily the best mp they’ve made in awhile. I’ll still play a game or two where 4 was extremely forgettable. Both campaigns in 4 and 5 were executed poorly even though making Cortana the bad guy was a smart play. The skill shelf is still too high for the casuals to come back permanently and 343 is to blame

re: Confirmed features for Halo Infinite
5 biggest issue is it took most of the skill out of moving. Shooting mechanics were solid. In previous skill based Halo games you needed to be able to make certain crouch jumps. Now you just use clamber. Strafing used be extremely important. Now just jet pack to force them to miss. Jumping shots were important and took skill. Now just freeze in the air to make the shot.

You have it backwards. Pit , Valhalla and Last Resort are all larger than the Halo 5 maps. Look, Halo Reach and 4 were not good. Halo 5 multiplayer is great. ADS is minimal at best in affects of gameplay. Most of the other add ons, outside of thrust have been taken out of the competitive playlist.

The reason the Halo 5 player base is so small is the skill gap is too large for new players. New players hop on a game and go 0-15. And playing over 10 games isn’t going to help that. It’s not like COD where you can camp and go 3-7 and feel like you did something. Blaming the changes to multiplayer for Halo 5’s low player count isn’t fair. If you want a high skill shooter it is right up there as good as any. (Well behind CS for obvious reason.)

Just like in Halo 3 with the shield regen and shield sucker thing, you had to learn how to is it. Sprint and thrust are the same way. (When you thrust you better make them miss and you hit your shots because you are basically locked in after you do it. It’s not that affective as an evasive technique as you think.)

Yea but no maps near as small as Lockout, Midship, Guardian, Chill Out, Beaver Creek, and Warlock. I agree ADS is minimal but not needed and only added to please the COD crowd.

Halo CE and 2 have a much higher skill gap. 3 is likely a tad higher too. Bc of no sprint map control was a huge part of those games (not as much in CE) and a good team could easily beat a bad team 50-2 in a slayer game at Lockout. Halo 5 does have skill in the shooting mechanics and that's about it. Halo 2 and 3 had GIANT online numbers even with the large skill gap.

Shield Regen and bubble shield and things of that nature in Halo 3 had pretty small impacts on the game. Sprint and Thrust have MAJOR impact. One of the major skills in Halo 2/3 was the ability to get out of a losing situation with skill. In Halo Reach/4/5 just tuck your tail and sprint. Not much skill needed other than hitting the sprint button and in 5 the thrust button. Also thrust in absolutely an extremely effective technique to force a missed shot. It's the most effective technique in Halo history. My issue with it is that it involves little to no skill. Just hit the button. Strafing in the classic Halo games was extremely important especially CE and 2 and somewhat in 3.

I'm speaking as somebody that has played every single Halo game extensively. I started with CE and have put legit time into every game. Halo 2 came out my senior year of HS and Halo 3 during my college years. I was there for the prime Halo years. Removing sprint and the other spartan abilities is paramount to making Halo great again. Bungie/343 has had 3 straight games adding sprint and other things not needed to the games and they have all failed. Time to actually give classic Halo people a game that is based on what made everybody love Halo to begin with.

Side note: I have my issues with Halo CE,2, and 3 as well but they are not near as bad as the issues with Reach/4/5. If I had to rank the games I would rank them as follows:

Halo 2
Halo CE
Halo 3
Halo 5
Halo Reach
Halo 4.
