For the people asking about the journals I just found 4 of them in one side dungeon. They start to pile on. Make sure youre covering every inch of the area though

Played the prologue this combat is awful. Another game ruined by shoehorning Souls like mechanics
What's more is all the press this game is getting likely means we are going to see this style of "turn based" combat more often.

I like it. Most people like it.

I think it's great. I could see how someone wouldnt like it though. Playing on hard you will get absolutely arse blasted if you miss one defensive input and I am starting to reach enemies with like 6-7 hit attack combos

The combat is awesome.
If you want to steamroll through the game, put it on story mode.

I just got to the arena and have found 3 so far, including the obvious one they hit you upside the head with.

There are no difficulty-based achievements. If you don't like the parry/dodge mechanics, just turn the difficulty to story.

Lmao there it is. I was waiting all day for the inevitable Bulldog negative review. At this point I’m convinced you just don’t like video games in general

Made it through prologue last night. A lot to like.
Thought for sure I was going to die to the mime. With 1 hit worth of HP left I just unleashed a mag into his arse and dropped him.
Will get a better flow of the combat next session. Was playing in bed, which I typically don’t do, and I was just to far from the screen. It fricked with my timing a bit.
They absolutely set things up nicely. I get that FFX spira feel. Everyone just trying to enjoy or prolong the inevitable. Waiting for someone to break through.
So far it’s been what I thought it was going to be and so far I’m not disappointed.

As someone that loathes story heavy, cinematic games.Example: I could even get through the opening of God of War because they wouldn’t STFU and let me play.
I typically prefer fromsofts minimalist story strategy.
This game is an absolute banger. The story is so unique, mysterious, and trippy I just want to keep going to figure out wtf is going on.
The music is absolutely phenomenal. The way the music transitions from a tense cut scene to a battle.
I played until almost 2am and had to make myself turn it off so I could work today.
At 49.99 on PS5 or free in game pass this game is a slam dunk.

Working through the floating waters.
I found that I’m dodging more here.
The blacksmith nevrons are easier to dodge than parry, IMO. The smaller ones are easier to parry. I do dodge the floating mine nevron’s Lightning attack though.
Beat the chain nevron.
I’m not sure what the expected level is for my character right now. I’m 10 with Gustave and Lune. Maelle is catching up at 9.
Looking forward to making it to a base camp and getting to work on upgrading weapons.

Shoot the mines. Mega damage to everyone.

If you get lucky and there are 3 of them, it pretty much ends in one turn.

Is the combat dark souls like, where you have to time everything perfectly and fight a boss 200 times?

I don’t think it is as bad as a Souls game.
I have died a good bit, but most deaths have come from enemies I wasn’t supposed to fight yet.
Tough enemies have been 2-3 tries.

It really depends. I imagine I am probably about 2/3 ish done with act 2 of the game and I have played the game on hard, but I have also tested the game a bit on normal. On hard you will have to nail every single defensive input, which you will want to do anyway because counters do massive damage, or you will get absolutely destroyed. Where I am I have encountered some enemies approaching the end game with 8,9,10 hit combos. Dodging gives you a more forgiving window. Normal from my limited experience is a more balanced approach between the two.
Everything is very well designed and the telegraphs are fair imo. Much like sekiro the sound design is literally some of the best I have ever seen so you can use that to help your timing if you struggle.

I love traditional turn-based gameplay. It's probably my favorite type of game/battle system; however, this game and battle system is incredible.
My only extremely minor complaint in the game so far, after just leaving the Manor, is that I really miss not having a mini-map. I understand why it isn't included - how would they have a map no one has ever returned and the prior expeditions probably weren't mapping things out - but I get a bit turned around at times in my nook investigations.

This is going to become worse. The areas, especially the main dungeons, become much much bigger and wider open as you progress. A mini map would be appreciated bigly but as you said I get why it isnt there.

The freaking troubadour in the flying waters was tricky.
Stopped trying to parry him. Just dodging. Timing was tricky, but finally beat him on my 3rd try.
