Civ 5 - What's your favorite civ ?

Ive spent a lot of this quarantine playing civ 5 and it's been a great experience. I've gotten up to Immortal Difficulty but can only win on that diff via diplomacy so far. I can handle every city state with Greece or Portugal and win the world vote by turn 360/500 usually.
For those civ 5 vets, what were your favorite civs? Any Deity players here?
My top 5 in no order.
Greece - I pick them so I dont have to play against them. Alex loves to rush a capital city down before turn 100. The city state bonus is nice and creates an easy win condition
Russia - the extra production is nice and once again, I dont like playing against Catherine.
Japan - great for domination. A fun pick for when I want to try and just roll over everyone and fight. And again, oda will frick your world up if you are a neighbor to his.
Portugal - so much gold
Ethiopia - versatile and a guaranteed religion is great.
I did not include poland, Korea or Babylon because they are OP and everyone loves to play as them. Too easy.

I like the US for the minutemen and half off tile purchases

Yeah. They will snowball out of control if unchecked. I dont play as Washington but I always try to ally him. He expands like crazy. So many lux resources to trade.
The b17s are nice too.

Greece is my baby. Once you get through the patronage tree and get forbidden palace, gg

Indeed. Greek Tradition -> patronage open +1 or 2 left side -> rationalism > fill patronage > ideology is great way to win on immortal.
The ability to rush down a shitty early like france or Brazil with hoplites and companion calvary is a nice plus.
On archipelago, the Ottomans and England are legit.
I go for forbidden palace every game. Diplo is always my win con. Sci is hit or miss and cultural isnt my thing. Domi is fun but you have to commit to that shite early

I need to get better at my micro-managing my cities. I need to go watch some high level players do it
Eventually I'm going to have to make the jump to 6 so I can play with jmurdah
Edit: I usually get the science boost on the patronage tree then go commerce or rationalism depending on my money/science output

That science boost in the patronage tree is massive.
I dont really like civ 6.
I try to micro my cities, especially my specialists. All science. Unless there is a big CS quest for a great person.
Micro pays off a lot. Any science advantage gained is huge.

I like Germany. You can play them in multiple different ways and as a result often like to do a bait and switch and actually go for a science victory with them instead of domination. Their cultural advantages allowing them to hold a standing army for cheaper and to pick up free units from barbarians (which can be heavily boosted with a point in the Honor tree, getting culture for kills, locating new encampments as they form even if off map, and getting a combat bonus against barbarians all with just one social policy spent.) with allows you to build a military for defense while your city production spends the early game focused on growth.
Their special unit is also dominant and comes in the late game when everyone else figures out what you are up to. And starting to run away with it.
Especially if you skilled up your mounted units early, a handful can emerge in the modern era as a deterrence with a pushy neighbor just with their presence near a border. They are almost as profound a deterrent as being the only nuclear power.
Another civ I like to play is the Netherlands, but you are 100% betting on being able to be survive being weak until extremely late in the game (specifically economics) and getting some good land with either marsh or flood plains. As land is so critical, you have to ride a line early on not triggering the AI for founding so many cities as fast as you can support the happines for.
Full Patronage and at least partial Commerce tree with late game Netherlands gets stupid powerful.

I had a loss recently as Germany (korea snowballed out of control) where I had fleets of panzers pillaging the shoshone who I joined in a declaration of war from Korea against.
I knew korea would wipe them so I joined in and just pillaged everything with panzers. It felt soooo good .
The Hanse is very nice too. Germany can get crazy production from those

Venice. I just chill, get good stacks, and build as many wonders as possible and develop my city.

They're good against AI but are terrible in multiplayer

This is so weird because I just started playing Civ V yesterday. First time in many years. What a great game. What are our thoughts on V vs VI?

I've been intending to try out Portugal, but I just haven't had time to get back into the game.
I love rich civs, it's fun to buy allies and even more fun to find a poor civ and bribe them into attacking my rivals.

Such a great strategy if you're doing a combo of AI/Human game. Become friendly with AI civ, give them some resources to go to war on another human, and then you blindside said human with your army

Is CIV 5 BETTER THAN Age of empires 2 Definitive Edition?

Two different types of game if you ask. If you want that quick fix aoe 2 is the way to go. If you want that deep dive and put hours or days in one game go civ

I've got 5 and 6. I like both. I'm not particularly great at either but it's fun to conquer the world. When I've mostly played civ 6 when I have played lately. My play style usually involves hoarding gold, then science. Then I can hopefully have enough gold reserves to quick build a force that tries to pick on me because I'm weak.
