I'm not the biggest fan of the battle system. It isn't bad, I just like my turn based games to be slower.
I wouldn't mind the time attack system if quick keys were available. I feel too rushed in the battles.

I think it asks you at the beginning if you want to play turn-based or atb

Ah. I may have missed that. Thanks.

Sitting in my office humming the Kingdom of Zeal theme song

Not exactly. It gives you the option to stop time if you are in a move or item menu. If you are just sitting there you will die.

The system is based off of Chrono Trigger.
So maybe you would not like that either.

It just takes time to get used to. I have no big issues with it, I just enjoy turn-based combat in its "one side, then the other side" form.
Much like Lost Odyssey.

You can still change it to "wait" instead of "active" in settings if you missed it in the beginning.

Holy shite. I can't believe I read all of that, but it all makes perfect sense. The developers and designers really knew what they were doing back then.

Yup. It's kind of amazing how it's all laid out, almost in a mathematical fashion.

Yep this thread caused me to put the soundtrack on and I've been jamming for two days

Really thinking about getting out the SNES

Yeah I'm running a DS one on my phone playing it now because of this thread

Just downloaded the three volumes of Chrono Trigger Symphony. There's some great stuff in there.

chrono trigger, FF Tactics, and final fantasy VII opened my eyes when I was 6-7 into the world of RPGs. Never looked back, but the more recent PS3-PS4 era of RPGs (story line and battle systems) pale in comparison to the games of SNES->PS2.

Too much focus on being pretty and open.
They forget to create memorable characters and engaging stories.
I trace it back to FFIX
Pretty as hell, but the characters were awful and the story made less than zero sense.
