Don't seem as relevant as they once did, but I still play the classics with my friends and family just like I did when I was little. Games like Monopoly and Scrabble. Share your board game stories.

I think they're becoming far more relevant. Especially with games like Catan, ticket to Ride, pandemic, etc

Modern board games are great. There's a huge variety of styles, playcounts, difficulties, etc to make the hobby accessible.

Once I started taking college seriously we played axis and allies during finals week. We would take a break from studying and go at it for a bit while eating. Tough to find anyone to play now

The family loves to break these games out during the holidays.

Yup.

Then, if you want to raise the volume there are things like Deception: Murder in Hong Kong, One Night Ultimate Werewolf, Coup, etc.

A place opened up near my house called Tea + Victory. They probably have over 300 board games there. They have a wall covered with games that has one of those rolly ladders on it. It's always packed. They have game "sommeliers" there that help you pick a game and teach you how to play. I've never been a huge board game guy, but going there once has really gotten me into it. We played a game called Karuba that was a lot of fun.

I got in to some heated games of Risk back in the day. Everyone knows Australia is key.

I really enjoy Catan. Also really like games with a co-op format like forbidden Desert/Island games.
Its really fun to play coop games with a betrayor element. I got “the thing” last year and it has a “secret hitler” feel to it, but with a map and miniatures.

Catan is definitely a new favorite in my family but any and all get broken out on family trips or holidays.. there’s 5 of us “kids” a long with spouses and girlfriends so it can get rowdy. It’s also a great way to for us all to “party together” since like for instance, I put on concerts and my brother is a youth pastor. So like we don’t normally travel in the same circles but it’s something we can all do together which is cool.

Check out Will Wheaton's YouTube series Tabletop. He plays all the "newer" board games with celeb guests. It got me into buying some of them once I could actually watch people play them and figured out what they were all about.

My wife and I made a rule for Christmas a couple years back. Every year For Christmas one of our gifts to one another has to be a board game/card game/ some sort of game you can play.

I’ve grabbed a couple of two player games for here the past couples years. Will prolly go for a more party oriented game this go round.

I highly recommend this as thing to do. It’s fun and gives a reason to buy them and you start to build a library pretty quickly.

For the people in this thread...drop what you are doing and go buy Scythe. Easily the best board game I've ever played. You'll probably need to dedicate a good three hours for it, though.

Yup, I've got all the expansions for that. Such a great game.

Only the first time. With any player who's played once, even a 5 player games is under 2 hours.
