While vanilla was the best time in WoW, the claims of loss of community and difficulty were noobs to the genre, EQ and other games were 10X more difficult with a community that will never be seen again, that said I would not pay $15 a month again to play a MMO.

All of this.
Spot on.

They made the game. Why shouldn't they be the people to make the money off it?
Not complaint here people still pay $15 a month for EQ, revenue is revenue, I don't blame them.
I just don't think a new IPO could sustain the model, hence the failure of the recent MMOs, it's a failed genre at this time and now sure how it comes back.

A group of people already did this till Blizzard sent them a cease and desist, now they steal the idea to bring it back for money? frick blizzard
LOL at the idea that somehow Blizzard is stealing someone else idea. Blizzard created the damn game, and someone else tried to steal it from them you dumbass.
quote:In terms of the sub model I agree. WoW being sub only was literally the only reason I didn't start playing it 10 years ago. Nowadays I don't mind paying for it at all, but my initial post was toward the guy who somehow made Blizzard out to be the bad guy for stopping other people from stealing their content.

I paid $45 a month to three box in EQ and WoW and I don't regret it, it was good times, but when you have a game that people are willing to pay for then go for it. Blizz isn't a bad guy.

Then you don't want vanilla
I mean I want to experience all the raids for real and the challenges of the content. I started playing during Legion and played steadily into Cata. Then occasionally after but none of the new expansions grabbed me like it used to maybe because I got older.
But Blizzard has improved a lot of gameplay aspects since the initial rollout. I don't think they mimic every single little thing from vanilla. they will incorporate some of the better improvements they have made over the years.

The only changes they potentially make are simple quality of life changes like AoE mob looting, reduction of respec cost, built in quest helper add on...things that don't change the way the game is played and how players interact...the vanilla experience is about immersing yourself and having that feeling of traveling great distances...adding a dungeon finder takes that away completely on top of making the game less social

Quality and advancement. It seems almost every mmo has followed the same stale formula of quests and story and classes with a bunch of subscriptions and pay to win tactics.
Hopefully all of this pay to win and pay to play culture rampant in gaming spawns a counter-revolution

Pretty much this.
I think it's a good thing that the creators of the game are on board, even if they charge the sub. I would feel more secure knowing that it's being managed correctly and won't be wacked at any given time and lose the work I put in.
I still play the game currently, and still enjoy it. I'm looking forward to the new expansion more than the classic server because I don't like going back to older content just to do it again. That era of the game is something I'll always remember though.
I can see this drawing more people in to the game just to play that, and that's awesome. I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the current players try it out and go "wow.. I can't fly from zone to zone anymore, back to the current server."

I can't wait. I couldn't stand how bad the leveling process became in WoW. Yes I'm actually looking forward to having to try to get to level 60.

Had a bot account for DAoC as well. Sub models have been around for a long time, WoW was not the first and it won't be the last.

Re-subbed out of principle.

Then you don't want vanilla...dungeon finders ruined a majority of the social aspect of vanilla.
WoW was probably the least social MMO on the market at the time it was released. The dungeon finder made grouping a viable means of leveling up once again.

MMOs were a niche genre until WoW came along, but I feel like you had a lot of variety in the games that did exist.
When WoW came out, everyone wanted to slap a popular IP onto the WoW formula. The end result is virtually every one of those MMOs has either shut down, is on life support, or is moderately successful as a free-to-play game.
Only FFXIV and WoW have any relevance.

Seems like ESO is doing well.
Wonder how many peeps will try vanilla, quit and go back to retail.
I'm actually looking forward to legacy. Not sure how long I'll play it, but if done correctly, it should thrive, albeit, a smallish, but dedicated server.

Can't wait to level up a resto shaman again and chain heal the team to the promise land.

Probably quite a bit of people. I say that not to be negative about vanilla WoW, but a lot of people do look at it with rose tinted glasses.
