Burned out early in its run. So much promise. A little unbalanced on the front end though.

I'd also add Ryzom, that was unique. And Anarchy.

I miss the days of Asheron's Call.

I play Wow still as it gives me somethign to do when im on the road for work, but its by far not the best out there. the Cata expansion damn near killed it. Mists are ok, better than Cata to be sure - but its lacking so much, the main one being a challenge

I can only say wow since its better than anything else I have played. The game really took a dump when they took the community aspect out of it and started doing lfr and lfg. Now its a bunch of retards who have no idea what they are doing.

I also think the developers ruined the game when they started listening to the 10% of people who post on their forums. Sometimes it's better to tell the masses "we don't care about your opinion."

I haven't played GW2 enough to give an opinion.

I would love for a mmo and a fps to have a baby.

You are 100% correct. Back then very few people cared about DPS, CH Rotations or end game. The game was about having fun with your guildmates and friends.

Most MMOs these dayss are solo EXP quest races to max lvl. Any new MMO gives 95% exp from quest and not hanging out in zones getting exp by killing mobs.

I blame EQ as much as any other MMO for this. Once they put the focus on end game and loot the game ended for me.

Yup. Which is why I enjoyed City of Heroes, very much the same kind of community.

This is true. I never gave a cent to Blizzard for WoW, they made everything into a theme-park ride to the end game. It's just so sad what happened to the good game systems in MMO's. Nothing has recaptured the early adventurous spirit the same way.

i think that's what "tom clancy's: the division" is trying to accomplish or something close to it.

on topic: i have tried them all and i just couldn't get into games where the most important thing to do (it seemed to me) was level up. also, monotonous, repetitive tasks to raise certain skills.

now i know it's a bitdifferent and i'm kind of contradicting myself but for some reason i can do the same race or the same mission over and over to level up in GTAV just fine.

Blizzard did make leveling very easy after a few expansions, but leveling in vanilla WoW was the most fun I've had in a MMO.

Very fun 5 months

I'm not saying others don't do certain things better, but as a whole WoW is just much more polished and has much more experience with what works and doesn't.

I've quit and comeback so many times, but I think I'm finally done. Just patiently waiting for Titan...

In that order and nothing after those two are even close.

I tried Eve and didn't really like it. It is massive, I guess, and multiplayer, but it felt like a single player with chat to me. But that's just me. I have friends that swear by it.

Shoutout to Ultima Online. Although, like others have said about other games, its nothing you would want to player in its current state. I'm not even sure what OSI shards look like. I download the 2d client and roll on a freeshard every year or so for nostalgia. I just run around listening to the music and messing with the few players I can find on my thief.

Tried to get back on LOTRO 4 or 5 months ago. LOTRO has appeal for someone who is a fan of the books. FtP LOTRO sucks hardcore, but I'm not willing to put any money into it.

Probably a good thing. I've got probably 1-2 hours a week for gaming these days.

Leveling in Vanilla was the highlight of my mmo gaming too....took forever but loved every minute. No breadcrumb trails either. I've played over 15 games since then and have yet to find that feeling again.

ETA: twinking lvl 29's for WSG was a hell of a good time too. In its early days

Ugh. Another one that went down the crapper. And fast. Was a great great game, very much in the mold of DAoC in terms of good balance.

And then FtP. I'm not saying that model doesn't work, but Turbine completely changed their game for it. Just terrible.

That and dungeon gating ruined that game.

In the early days of EQ, it was a blast to do. I can remember pulling for hours outside of Karnor's Castle and loving every minute of it. The EQ community will never be topped.
