Since 1995
Also had the Neo Geo CD at one point, the load time on those things were horrible.

Lately I’ve been playing Mickey Mania on the Sega Genesis. I always liked the Disney games on the genesis, especially Aladdin, despite the game over screen giving me nightmares as a kid.

Was there ever a time when software fro the AES wasnt like $200.00 each ? I remember back in the 90's thats how much they were and now CIB versions are selling for that much or more.

Second this but also throw in Shovel Knight. That game is amazing. The Scrooge Mcduck pogo stick attack from Duck Tales...

I got mine used from a friend's older brothers. They took very good care of it and felt half a pound of weed was a great trade
The system isn't near as much as some of the games are. I'd love an original Metal Slug 3

retro gaming thread and not a single mention of a RetroPie build?
Posted on 8/3/25 at 4:05 pm to Klark Kent
My used gaming store had a SNES available for $105 today. Got that and Super Mario World for $125.

buying the actual retro consoles is the better investment in the long term for sure. I’m going to build a new RetroPie for my 4 year old this year and start introducing him to gaming the right way.

I just think it is amazing how many of them still function very well. My NES still goes strong.

Having the console and buying an appropriate EverDrive may be the right way to go.
At least on most consoles which aren’t the TG16 which have a ton of required add ons to play other games.
Genesis kind of does but the number of 32X games worth play can probably be counted on one hand. CD is a different story with stuff like Snatcher.

On the retro tip,
I just picked up Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound for the switch.
Good stuff. 16 bit-esque.

I had Game Genie for NES. Did the Mario 3 code that let me play the entire game as frog Mario without losing the power up. Problem with that is there is a fortress level in world 8 where you have to be able to duck on a conveyor that takes you under a very low ceiling of spikes. Frog Mario can’t duck low enough to go under that so I couldn’t finish

I just bought a heavy nostalgia game from my childhood that I can’t wait to play.
Mickey and Donald World of Illusion in Sega.

Yeah, the Game Genie only got you so far.
I tried taking on Tyson using it in Punch Out. About all that happened was that I was habitually stun locked through a lack of hearts because he whipped my arse.

Do NES games sell well? I have a few still.
Posted on 8/12/25 at 9:12 pm to rob0710
In general yes, but it probably depends what they are. (The market for most retro games in general spiked during covid.)
Rare shite always sells like Little Samson.
More common games which are in demand tend to sell, like any Super Mario or Megaman game.
Common games without a lot of nostalgia like Silent Service? Less so.

Most of the generic ones go for $15-20.
Zelda and Mario games go for $30+, depending on quality.
If you start getting into owning box art, the price can skyrocket.
This is all based off my purchasing of retro games at my nearby used store.
Interestingly, I find N64 games, especially the popular ones, to be the most expensive.
Some of the SNES games can get up there too, like Mario: Legend of the Seven Stars. That one is $80 at my used game shop.
Those prices are just cartridges, nothing else.
Which ones do you have? I might want them and I’ll buy them off you.

I still want Mat Mania. I put so many damned quarters into that machine.
ETA - HOLY frick - It's available on the Switch
Something tells me that Coco Savage isn't going to be in the game anymore.
