Lol. Couple of years ago I would have been all for it.

I was online when the Zek's beat the sleeper, I was on the Rathe and everyone on the server just kind of stopped what they were doing as people gave updates in the chat channels.

That's where I played. Some of the core members of our guild (New OutRiders) all dyed our gear purple (when Ykesha came out) and called out little group "The Grapes of Rathe"

I was in Avengers of Faith then we merged with Evolutia Draconis to form Evolution of Faith. The rots made for a unique experience and drama, I think there were only two rots servers everyone else was ffa.

There really has not been a game that has matched that experience for me, especially early on. It was work to get from one continent to another, real penalties (in terms of time) for dying, and you had to rely on others for groups. Any sort of grinding or mild inconvienence seems to be removed from games today, I assume to pander to younger generations.

The community in EQ was also the best I've ever experienced in a MMO where people weren't crying or whining about something every 4 seconds.

I think you are dead on. I know my years of EQ-play have shaped my playstyle. In DCUO I've had to give many bits of advice on positioning mobs and situational awaress on aggro, etc. that the majority of tanks (or other classes for that matter) simply didn't know because they have never had to learn them.
EQ also had a SHITTON of content when it released. Questing wasn't really much, but the difference in gaining a level was important and the penalty really made it a worthwhile achievement and losing exp (and possibly gear) a growing impetus to be more aware of where you were and what you were doing.

So apparently my old group is "getting the band back together" and playing P1999. We have a good half-dozen folks already ingame and levelling with some others working on getting in and set up.
Got my bard up to 5 over the weekend and got a port (there's a guild called Dial A Port they are like the Uber service of the game lol) from NK to BB. Now to make the harrowing journey to Kelethin and get bound.
It's amazing how much came back to me, even after a 10-year absence. The action is definitely more slowly paced, but the sense of danger is much more prevalent.

I hop on occasionally. Look me up, Merrik is my 60 druid. Could do a little power leveling or just buffing to help out if needed.
I can also make 10% weight reduction backpacks so save any HQ pelts you may randomly find.

Yes.
No other experience like it. Every single MMO since, even WoW, has failed to achieve the wonder I had with that game.
And I'm not even sure it can be duplicated.

While repeated experiences may have softened it a bit, I have had that sense of wonder and thrill of danger like I haven't had since February 1999 (last phase of closed beta). I think the decade away and there not being a firm twinking infrastructure in place helps. Also, the player base is far friendlier overall than any other game I've played (probably because the vast majority are older players that played the original, no need for measuring e-peens).

stay off the p99 forums to keep that mirage in place

How easy is it to find a group lvls 1 - 59? One of my favorite things about EQ was how active the game was at all lvl ranges.

I imagine very hard. I don't know how you could get back without a solid guild

Finding groups is pretty easy. At any given time there are 1k-1,500 on the server and most seem to be low levels. Was in Crushbone last night and although it was heavily camped I got invited to a group without even shouting for one.
