Sony announced actual games, big games in high demand.
Microsoft announced last gen games compatibility and a $150 fricking controller and about 1 decent game.

I've noticed. 
I have a PS4 and love it but overall I wasn't impressed with anything they showed. I personally think people are just overreacting to the FF7 (which I love and will buy) remake announcement.

So E3 isn't about tech innovations in the gaming industry? It's only about games? Well then, I guess Microsoft and Sony just shouldn't announce new consoles they're working on anymore. Just video games.
And I remember soooo many people bitching at Microsoft and Sony for not having backwards compatibility on their new consoles. Now that Microsoft has it, they're made fun of?

I missed the Xbox stuff. What's going on with them? How "together" will PC and Xbox gaming be, and are we talking about cross-platform multiplayer? It would certainly be nice for XBox and PC to merge to a single platform and just call it Windows gaming.

Yea man, just FF7.
Nobody cares about Shenmue, Last Guardian, No man's sky, or COD switching sides.
COD sucks to me but that is still a pretty big deal from a business standpoint.

It's moving more away from Xbox gaming and PC gaming and more to Windows Gaming like you said. When Windows 10 comes along, Microsoft is going to bring the two closer together and try to have "Windows Gaming" exclusives. It's a brilliant move by them to put a strangle on the gaming industry. Xbox One users get early access and can download mods starting this fall.
But FF7 remake is better than all of that apparently.
