There is only one Fatty Rewind. I wish they were still posted here, but I read them every week. I think I truly got a dry hangover from the one posted on Monday. I'm still feeling a little weak.

It's much easier to type and layout over there.
But I like these restaurant reviews.

Very nice review! Thorough and enjoyable.
I'm not a big fan of YOCI, possibly because it wasn't a stable growing up.
The food looks ok, but nothing special. I'm curious what the meal ended up costing? I always found YOCI to be priced similar to nicer places in town.
I just pulled up the menu and think I would spend less money at Peche or Shaya then I would at the College Inn.
I get nostalgia, but I opt for quality.

I miss the old olde college inn.

The old one was just a dive, right? Sloppy poboys, plate lunch, etc.?
Or am I getting it confused. What Gris posted looks really fancy for what I remeber.

yes it was a dive
old school service industry favorite on Carrollton
it was known for its oyster loaf and plate lunches
ok for fried seafood but there was nothing at all fancy about it

That's how I remember it. This facelift was after Katrina or something?

I have no idea. I wasn't paying. The servings were all generous and many easily sharable like Peche and Shaya in some ways.
I think some of the food is a bit more contemporary, but not too much, when the "farm/garden" next door is producing and this isn't quite the time of year for that.
It's not in the same category as Peche or Shaya. Not comparable, really, in most ways.

I get what you're saying, but I'm not sure that's the right word. The quality of the food was fine. Great oysters, fish, shrimp and crabmeat. Perhaps, not prepared in ways you prefer. We had lunch at Peche the day before and at Shaya that day. I like variety...new and old.

the guy who owns rock n bowl bought it and moved it
he spent big bucks reinventing the place
the outcry at the time from the old school folks was similar to that against Donald links new bakery these days
if we are being honest the original was not good at the end

Funny you said that. I did hit up the old one before it closed. It was a sad state of affairs.
I remember hearing my dad and uncle talk about how good it 'had' been, and wondering why we were there. Looking back, I know now it was their way of saying goodbye.

yea it was a neighborhood fried seafood kind of place. I'm speaking off of nostalgia, but I miss the mound of onion rings they would give you, seafood gumbo, fried oysters, etc.

I hadn't been there since I was pretty young and I wouldn't say the food was great back then, either, but it was good and it was sort of a staple in the area. I only got gumbo and poboys and maybe a shrimp remoulade from time to time.
Looks like the new owner also put in an events building for the restaurant connected to Rock 'n Bowl. From the outside, it looks like a pretty large space.
I'm going to keep an eye on the specials he has as the seasons progress. He updates his site daily and I'm interested in what comes from the garden.
The Facebook page is interesting. On the Feast of the patron saint of New Orleans, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, the owner hosted an open to the public rosary at Rock n Bowl with a complimentary drink at the restaurant following the rosary.
On Good Friday, he invited the public to the stations of the cross in the afternoon starting at the restaurant and continuing in the farm/garden. Interesting stuff.

I like to belly up to their bar and get a stack of onion rings and beam. You can't go wrong.
Posted on 4/5/16 at 8:27 pm to arseinclarse
How áre the rings prepared ?
Posted on 4/5/16 at 8:34 pm to OTIS2
Thick cut. Beer battered. Fried. Stacked high.

My husband cannot get past it. We went once a couple of years ago, and the difference from the ye Olde of yore bugged him so much we haven't been back. He says they should have changed the name

What I saw of the bar looked inviting. I could see spending an afternoon/evening watching sports at the bar and eating on and off. That was the first thing I thought when I looked at it on the way in.
Arse, do you know the guy who is apparently the mascot there? That cracked me up. He's on their webpage under the staff or employees, however that's listed.

The old guy?
I've had several drinks with him. He's friends with my secretary. They know each other from Charlie's bar from back in the day. I used to frick with him about Tulane baseball.
My bro goes there about two-three times a month.
