Chef Ruth Mercado recently debuted a Sushi Burrito menu at MidCity outdoor spot The Camp, address 5909 University Drive.
"A sushi burrito is a sushi roll in the vehicle of a burrito," Mercado says. "Except all of its contents are sushi based. Our sushi burritos at The Camp are white sushi rice seasoned with rice vinegar and mirin ( a rice wine condiment), wrapped in roasted seaweed. The center of the sushi burrito depends on which one you order - various sushi ingredients like fish, chicken teriyaki and veggies - wrapped up nice and neat into a burrito-shaped roll."

I have had them before from different restaurants, they were great for the price point.

F$&k yeah. I had some at this place in Vegas that I wish would open in BR.

Isn't a sushi burrito just a sushi roll that hasn't been cut up?

It’s also slightly thicker and has all of its components inside the rice and nori
JaBurrito in Vegas did it perfect. The few attempts at sushi burritos I’ve had in Louisiana were all terrible because they weren’t rolled tight enough and thus immediately fell apart. A good sushi burrito stays together like a good burrito.

Nothing new. Temaki has been around for quite a long time.
ETA: Didn't answer the OP's question, WYEI?
I mean, I'd eat it but there's a reason that the sushi chef should hand you temaki to be eaten right away. In no time at all the nori turns from a pleasantly toasted and crispy outer shell to a mushy and gummy mess. This burrito would turn into crap before you got halfway through.

The texture gives me the willies. Couldn’t do it.

I've had them before and they are very good if you like sushi rolls. I more often see the funnels though.

Agree that this is just a dumb marketing ploy: as said upthread, its a temaki (hand roll), which is sold at any place making sushi. I love the soft shell crab temaki—its fun to eat the legs poking out of the top of the cone as the first bite.

Wasabi Juan's Bham
This is easily my favorite sushi place (I'm not a big sushi fan). The Mexican sushi fusion works pretty well. The 420 nachos are absolutely unbelievable (Doritos, spicy Tuna*, avocado, sesame seeds, unagi sauce & spicy mayo).

Damn.
This makes me want to order a snow crab salad and a side of eel sauce from Umami and make Dorito nachos tonight.

Wow Huntsville. Welcome to 2017.

Albertsons has a great crab salad that would work for this.
I need to get some spicy mayo and some fresh tuna and go to town.

The nachos are amazing. It's a great combination. One of their sushi burritos also has doritos in it making a wonderful flavor/crunch contribution. Wasabi Juan's is definitely worth a stop if you are ever in Bham.

2017? I was thinking more like 2012

Yeah Pokeworld Sushi in Prairieville has a variety of these if anyone is looking. Hasn't been around all that long, haven't got around to trying yet.

Yeah, there is a poke place near where I work. The bowls with quinoa or rice and all the same ingredients are great. Wrapped up in some spongy burrito thing, I think I would .
