It’s crazy how the bar scene on corporate struggles in that stretch. Pelicans and now the Cove.
And corporate brew. Late at night its pretty much the service industry people that decide what makes it and what doesnt. Cove was successful with this for years until the crowd started going elsewhere (Hayride or the Jefferson)

La Salle’s Crawfish and Lobster Rolls, a fast-casual restaurant that came to Acadian-Perkins Plaza in May, permanently closed its doors today after five months of business.
“There just wasn’t enough traffic,” says Leo Scott, Jr., who, along with co-owner Jeff Simoneaux, had signed a five-year lease for the 1,200-square-foot space. “I believe we have the right product, we just don’t have the customers.”

I went twice and knew instantly that place would not last. Food was actually good but needed to be a food truck or in a mall food court. They did have a good product that was tasty but with it being lobster, it goes bad fast if you don't have constant customer flow.

Corporate just isn’t suited for bars imo. Yes, there are several apartment complexes, but I’d imagine those people are going to Overpass area

The Cove was still plenty popular. It was a lease/repairs issue from what I've heard/read.

There was a time when I was there everyday, literally. The last few times I was in, granted not on a weekend, it was always real slow with no more than 5-10 people.
Maybe it truly was just an issue with the landlord but Port Royal is a shithole and Tom has never put a penny into fixing that place but it's still open.
I know Bri has now moved but I hope it is just a moving locations thing for Jeff since he has been there for 8 yrs or so.

Yeah, but Port is definitely the exception to this entire discussion because they don’t rely on the business of strangers wandering in. Easily 90% or more of their business comes from the same 50-75 people. Condition of the building plays no real role there, whereas it does matter elsewhere.
I love the place. I hope it never goes away.

I think the regulars at Port would riot if Tom renovated that place.
My point is though that Cove lost much of it's service industry crowd as other places in the area opened. Space ended up being too big for the crowd it had. In it's hayday, you couldn't find a seat. I don't remember a time in the last few years when I have gone by that it was that busy.

I think the demand for places with hundreds of beers and hundreds of whiskeys is overstated. Most people who are that serious about beer/whiskey will curate their own collections, and maybe go to special events to try limited releases. 95% of drinkers drink the same 5-10 drinks/cocktails in my experience.

I've always thought the sweet spot, assuming no BMC taking up space, would be around 30 taps.
Especially for a place in BR.
