Such an underrated dish. My grandfather had an affinity for it.

When I was a kid, we usually ate Thanksgiving at my Grandparent's house in Isola, Mississippi (cotton farmers). Each of their 7 daughters brought a dish and there was tons of food to eat. One of their two sons married a nice lady who was not much of a cook. I still remember the year she brought a sack of 10-12 Jack's Hamburgers ("for 15 cents are so good-good-good, that you'll come back-back-back to Jack-Jack-Jack's for more-more-more!"). The sisters thought it was the very worst thing they had ever seen. All of us little kids thought it was wonderful.

My best Thanksgiving story, other than the year PaPa's mule got out and wandered off down into the bayou just before lunch.

Not unless someone requests you bring a specific side. As long as it's good, and you think people will actually eat it (i.e. know your audience), you should be fine.

As said already, call and ask.

But I do think it sounds a bit heavy for a random side. Turkey, cheese...it’s a casserole so I’m imagining it’ll have butter or cream or something.

There’s so much heavy food already planned for Thanksgiving. I’d imagine offering to make an appetizer or something light on the side would be better welcomed. Especially when considering you aren’t part of the main meal plan.

Food is food. You bring it, it's getting eaten. I promise.

And don’t show up demanding oven space at all. If you can’t cook it at home and get it to the meal in ready to eat condition, then think of bringing something that doesn’t require reheating. It’s not really helpful to show up and then need attention/kitchen space. Crock pots, warmers, insulated carriers, etc are wonderful things.

This!!! I host every year. I would never say a thing to my guests but this is super irritating. Please be considerate and if you think whoever hosts you doesn't mind they probably do.

I bring a pot of chili every year. It's the price they pay for me frying the Turkey. They can kiss my arse if they don't like it.

Only thing to do is have Burger King onion rings at every Thanksgiving to honor him

I agree 1,000%

I'd have a shite ton of them every year and make sure everyone had that on their plate. If you refuse, you wouldn't get invited again.
