I have reservations at Osteria Francescana this September. Can’t wait.

I hope Chef Massimo reclaims the #1 spot in the world.

shite my wife woke me up at 3:45 on the morning of June 1st so we could both attempt to get in. I have no idea how, but we got a reservation for the exact day and time we wanted.

At one point I was something like number 1,100 in the queue.

I had my finger on the trigger and she said "I don't want to take the time to go to Modena. I don't care that much."

My eyes shot daggers at her at 4 in the morning or whatever it was

I have been to two of them on the current list: #3. Eleven Madison Park in NYC, and #14. Steireck in Vienna, Austria. I remember going to Taillevent in Paris when it was #1 and also Guy Savoy when it was way up there but both of these have fallen off.

I was able to go to Alinea in April, and it completely blew away my extremely high expectations. Definitely the best meal I've ever had in my life.

It's an exciting thing to hear that there are more than 30 restaurants better than what I had in April. Lots more unbelievable dining to experience.

For the other restaurants listed that people have visited, would you say your personal experience reflected the high praises given here?

That's definitely one of my bucket list places in the U.S.

Good to hear that it was as good as expected

Booked a table last week for August. Praying nothing cataclysmic happens in the mean time . Did you do gallery or salon?

I've been to Attica, which is now number 20. Don't have a point of comparison on the list, but it was definitely worth it.

Even if it wasn't, when I went, they had a portion of the meal where they took you outside for their version of a Bunnings sizzle which included unlimited 3-4 oz pours of a lager they comissioned specifically for this course. I was told that the record was 23 or 24 little cups by an American, so in theory you could get your money's worth if you weren't impressed. Was very proud of my country at that moment.

Chef Massimo

He had a segment in the movie Wasted: The Story of Food Waste. Check it out if you haven’t seen it. His soup kitchen feeding the poor looked amazing. I can’t imagine what the good restaurant is like.

Salon just because the Gallery had filled up in the minute or so that the seats were listed for booking. I think the Gallery has maybe 2/3 different or additional courses. Sill, the salon ended up being a great little spot.

Only negative was that one half of the party sees what's coming to all of the other tables while the other half gets to be surprised because his/her back is to the action. Didn't really affect my enjoyment but with the nature of how they present the courses, you can see how it's a small annoyance.

All told, think we had 10 or 11 courses with only one being a miss (1st dessert) mostly because of a textural issue and half of them being among the best things I've ever tasted in my life.

We went thinking this was a once in a lifetime meal; but as the dinner progressed we both realized we'd have to go back to see what crazy, delicious thing they thought up next. Worth every cent.

So who's the person that eats in every restaurant in the world for a year to be able to come up with this list?

Haven't scanned list but chiming in to update on visit to Next.

Thought it was a very good meal with one or two standout dished. However it sort of finished with a whimper (but that could have also been once the loud, obnoxious Banker bros at table next to us left, the thrill of eavesdropping also left).

A little too long between last two or three courses and maybe a touch pedantic. Also didnt like how one had to either do the wine pairing or just basically stick to water. At the time the concept was French Nouvelle Cuisine, and to be unable to order a nice bottle of wine to drink over course of meal just seemed stupid.

Also went to The Aviary and there as well found the experience and party tricks started to lose their luster after awhile.

Achatz has a very severe desire to be in complete and utter control and at some times it is counterproductive to an enjoyable dining experience.
