Wine Storage / Fridge

The wife's and my collection is getting large enough that we need a serious storage and temperature solution. We don't have a basement or cellar and aren't looking to do any renovations, so we need a standalone solution capable of storing 75+ bottles. Anyone have any recommendations? TIA

Basically none of them outside of the 5000 dollar ones have good reviews. We just got one from Home Depot for 300 and put it in the garage next to the beer fridge, it it goes out I'll throw it out and go get another one.

For one that size, you're probably going to spend about $1k. Make sure it has racks that are fully capable of sliding out. Make sure you can stack the bottles opposite of each other i.e. bottom of bottle towards door, alternating bottle neck towards door.
We were getting in the same situation and bought a 36 bottle holder, from Costco, to hold our $75 plus bottles. Well, I got about 26 or so in there comfortably. After reading the small print, it holds 36 Bordeaux size comfortably. The only bottles I have that size are some Super Tuscans we recently bought and Caymus Special selection. Every other bottle is the fatter bottom style.

I would highly recommend buying one that holds about 50% more than you think you need. I made the mistake of buying a 55 bottle. We now have more outside of it than in it. I'm in the market myself.

YES! I 100% agree with this statement. Looking back, I was only able to utilize the 36 bottle rack at roughly 75%. That left me with about 30 bottles in the $25-$75 range in a wine cupboard and 16 other weekday/pizza wines in the dog lair. I should have bought something to accommodate it all.
FWIW, I got one of the Wine Enthusiast models from Costco. It's just kind of cheap.
Hindsight, double what you think you need and don't cheap out. I did

The problem with this logic is all of the wine you just ruined by the resulting large change in temperature.
If you are going to put relatively inexpensive wine in there and use the fridge just to chill it...ok. If you are wanting to put expensive wine in there to keep for a period of time, I'm not sure a cheap wine cooler is your best option.

Unless you get a Eurocave or something similar they're all going to be rated for Bordeaux bottles.
I disagree about the reviews on the lesser priced coolers. If you read enough reviews you're going to find bad ones and many of the reasons for the bad reviews are because the people didn't do their homework up front. I.E. it doesn't hold the number of bottles it said it would.
I also wouldn't put a wine cooler in the garage where the cooler is subjected to temperature extremes. That's a recipe for a short life for a wine cooler and defeats the purpose which is tightly controlling ambient temperature and light for the wine.

at the $8 bottle of CSJ in there opposite the $50 Stag's Leap We have a $300 wine cooler and it's worked great for just about a year now. Reviews tend to show that it only lasts a few years so we will see. It was a gift so I'm not too worried.

Haha. Yeah, looks like that label facing row is for showing off and hiding the cheap stuff.
I tend to "top shelf" my more expensive stuff in the rack that's in our sitting room.

Go to Wine Enthusiast.com. They have the best wine refrigerators. I have EuroCave that holds about 140 - 150 bottles. It is the EUROCAVE PREMIERE M and cost about $2,700 (when on sale at 10% off) (regular price is $2,995), with free shipping and white glove delivery (the moving company set it up for me). Best purchase ever. I have about $10k of wine and decided it was time to protect my investment. Really quiet, looks great and holds steady temperature at 53 degrees. Pull out drawers are easy to use. Highly recommend (3 of my friends bought them as well after seeing mine).

For years I had the 36 bottle cellar, but I outgrew it much quicker than I expected to.
Now, I've got the 166 bottle from CostCo. I don't plan on filling it, but it is nice having extra space.
Especially around the holidays, when I stock up for parties, etc,, or if I buy an unexpected case or two, I always have room.

You have this one, or are you suggesting it? The problem I found with my cheapo $189 Costco cooler is that the shelves are kind of flimsy. That's why I was suggesting one with wooden, full-slide shelves.
I'm still kicking myself in the arse for not biting the bullet and buying the bigger cooler. I only have about 1/3 the value of your collection though.

My family got me a 54 bottle cooler for Christmas. It actually holds about 40 and I've outgrown it already. I think something in the 130-150 bottle range is where I want to be next. The small cooler is restricting my purchases to some degree.
I've decided that I'll bite the bullet and get a Eurocave next time. I haven't seen a bad review of them and they can be configured to hold different sized bottles.
