What if someone else is paying for it? Do you have to eat his or her way?
I don't care how someone else likes his or her steak or anything else except that it grosses me out when people mix everything together on the their plates like those bowl things they sell at the fast food joints that contain a little bit of everything sold there in one bowl. That's just nastiness, right there! I have a hard time seeing those ads on TV.

will say screw any place where a waiter will "react" in any way to such an order.
we went to some steakhouse for my buddy's bachelor party in Houston and before the waiter took our orders he made it a point to tell us that the chef would not cook any steak past medium
I guess we looked like a bunch of unsophisticated rednecks

How is it a waste if the person ordering it truly enjoys it that way? I don't get it I guess.
but they would enjoy it more if they didn't overcook it

not unless the pretentious son of a bitch who is paying for it insists you do so otherwise. I've had others (people treating me to a meal) suggest how to order something cooked. They've never insisted on it, but they've certainly made suggestions.

It was a joke.

"Food and beer snobs are the worst!"
You're on a board dedicated to food and drink snobs.

Bottom line: that's the way I like it. It suggests that Rare or Medium-Rare is reserved for the aristocracy, and anything that sits on the grill longer is so... bourgeois.
that's perfectly fine, i'll never criticize
but if you get a steak at my house you are getting it medium rare
Posted on 1/21/15 at 1:11 pm to tigerpawl
Order it how you want but if you cook it past medium it is tougher and less juicy.

Not really but point taken I guess.

FYI I'm on board with you - some people take stuff way too seriously. But it comes with the territory. I liken it to the passionate idiots on the Rant.

At least you don't get it well done. My dad orders every steak well done and every steak he makes is well done. Damn near burnt. I thought steak was gross and tasted like a flavorless work boot until I was 16 or so. Once I had steak medium-rare I never went back.

Some people prefer to jack up their truck or wear cargo pants because they "like it." It won't stop me from judging them. Trash is trash.
I hope you remember to bring your bottle of A1 with you when you go to a steak place to go with your dry, over-cooked steak. Not all of them have it.
