Why hasn’t the Camelot club in downtown Baton Rouge ever reopened

The food and the atmosphere was always great…… too bad it never reopened

I had friends who belonged to it in the early 1980s and got to go there on a number of occasions. Nice place with very good food.

Having a bathroom attendant that refilled the urinals with ice cubes got expensive.

That never fails to make me laugh, it's a holdover when the lack of water for sanitation made restrooms stink. It's like saying "we'd rather not sanitize".
The Camelot Club was nice, but the damn old farts who paid for it kept dying. Damn geezers.

The food was awesome when Chef Michael Loupe was there in the mid 1980's and early 90's. Many a good dinner there.

The Camelot was nice but event revenue wasn't enough to keep it going as memberships dropped off sharply. Part of that drop off was the much older City Club stopped being gender/race discriminatory and siphoned off membership. Another big part was the declining number of people who want to drive in I10/12 for cocktails and dinner then drive home buzzed.

The Camelot Club had a more festive atmosphere than the City Club has now. I've been to CC about a dozen times, it's a bit staid. The downside of any club is the idea of eating at the same place most of the time. I really don't care to do that; I get bored of the same venue.
