I seem to not be able to get my gas grill hot enough to really char a steak. It is a fairway new Weber Genesis and it seems like it is the propane tank or hose or regulator or how much I turn it on. Anyone have a similar experience. Tank is not empty or even at 1/4z

Turn your knobs off. Start the butane for a minute then open the knobs. It should heat to max after that.

Exactly. Turn propane to high with your knobs off. Wait a minute then start. It should heat to highest temps then.

Try a Charbroil Tru Infrared grill next time. They’re great.

It seems like there is some safety device. I have seen similar problem when people try to boil crawfish or fry a turducken.

If you go online and google why it tells you. The propane needs to build up a little momentum if you will. I had the same problem for years and did this simple thing and no worries ever again. That’s all I got. Good luck.

My Griddle does this, I have to take out the propane tank from under the griddle and it runs fine after that.

My double jet use to freeze my propane bottle. I figured out that you can only open my bottle about 3/4 of a turn or it will freeze up.

The only thing that made sense to me, was the presssure regulator, not 'momentum'. If you open your burners first, when you open the propane tank, there is no back pressure for the regulator to operate properly. It will restrict the amount of gas allowed through it. By having your burners closed, then opening the tank, the regulator functions properly allowing the maximum allowable gas.
If by chance you are grilling and run out of propane, remember to repeat the same steps. Close burners, replace tank, turn on tank, relight grill, and cook.

After you get the gas supply issues, explore Grill Grates for that Weber Genesis. Once of my best cooking-related purchases was replacement Grill Grates for my Genesis. (You can put them on top of your original grates, but I replaced and have no regrets.)

The traditional grill side will make incredible crosshatch grill marks, and most of the steak competition folks use them for that reason. Flip them over to the flat side, and you get a brown crust on the entire surface of the steak that actually gives better flavor than the pretty marks.

The flat side can also be used like a griddle, though it has drain holes that would not allow pancakes, eggs, or or other "wet" items. It is great for sauteing onions, bell peppers, jalapenos, shrimp, etc. for fajitas.

GG often has discount codes out there. They now offer 25% off for orders over $69 with code MERRY25.

This is the proper explanation. Thanks.

I reverse sear my steaks and a genesis with sear station. To get the steaks up to temp I turn the far right burner on medium and put the steaks on the far left and slowly cook them until 115-120 ish and pull them. I then turn my two far right burners on high and the sear station burner on high and let it get up to temp. I put the steaks on with the grill lid open and move them to prevent the char marks, the steaks taste better with a nice dark brown sear all over vs the char marks. 3 minutes each side gives you a perfect medium rare/medium steak.

I use to try for the chargrilled lines.

I agree with you and have used it with success. Just a pain to clean. But now grill doesn’t heat it enough. Hope to try the regulator reset.
