Wine is vastly overrated
So are Rolexes. Both are frequently purchased by people with neither taste nor the least bit of knowledge about what they are buying, simply because those people have been told that it's the correct choice.
But simply because the average person is a rube doesn't change the fact that Rolex makes solid wristwatches or that wine can be an incredible, complex beverage.

Not enough demand

Nah. I know about types of beer thanks. But you know good and well what people mean when they complain about a beer list and it’s sure not a lack of saison options.

Well no, I do not know this.
The OP references saisons, as have other in this thread.

When I complain about a beer list, it's certainly not because they don't have enough IPAs. I want them to have at least one representative from the major taste pairing groups: give me something light, something dark, something hoppy, something sweet, and if you're really having fun, something sour.
To take it out of the vaguely hypothetical, if I sat down for lunch and was given a beer menu with Great Raft Farmhouse Slang, Parish Reve Coffee Stout, Gnarly Barley Jucifer, Gnarly Barley Korova Milk Porter, and Urban South Lime Gose, I'm good to go. Would it be great if they had more? Sure, but I'm a pretty fricking happy guy.
Hand me a menu with five IPAs on it and I'm going to think the proprietor is an idiot.

Exactly. One of the first things I do when judging a beer list is check to see if they have more than just hoppy beers.

Beer nerds are out of control.
Bring your own and pay the same corkage fee as wine. We all know if said restaurant offered a couple crafts, you wouldn't be happy with their selection.

I’d gladly pay a comparable corkage fee

Come on, shouldn't I at least be able to cut it in half? A bottle of wine has over twice the liquid of a bottle of beer, to say nothing of the amount of alcohol

Restaurants that don’t make an effort with beer selection are making a mistake.

More than half of consumers (56 percent) agree that it is important for a restaurant or bar to offer a wide variety of craft beers, and half (49 percent) say they will go to a particular establishment because of its craft beer selection, according to a recent Technomic survey.

Newer high end places are better
Yeah, can't recall a newer high end or critically acclaimed restaurant that I've been to in the past few years that didn't appear to put at least some effort into their beer list
Doubt it will get worse with the obsession that some of the super high end chefs have with all flavors of fermentation. Went to Attica (20th on the world's 50 best list) earlier this year, and they had a beer list with about 10 beers, an entirely separate section for sour beers with a few more, commissioned a beer for one of their courses, and occasionally work beer into their wine pairings (although, they didn't when I went). Was definitely not a huge part of their restaurant, but it wasn't an afterthought, either

Not disagreeing with the overall view, but these “stats”, while the only thing available, are irrelevant to me. Not saying it won’t be more relevant in the coming years but a lot of diners don’t even know what a craft beer is. It’s a big (and growing) market but the space for inventory as more and more breweries emerge is an issue for bars, even harder for restaurants.

I think most people agree that you don't need a huge inventory. 5 taps is sufficient. I don't expect the fine dining establishment to have the same rare taps as a taproom that specializes in beer. I expect them to have a solid representation of the basic styles.

Most craft beers are horrible to begin with. Most restaurants will serve what sells, not what millennials think should be on the menu. What gets me is some restaurants ONLY have craft beer. What's wrong with having a very cold Budweiser on hand? So many millions of people CAN"T be wrong!!!!

Nothing wrong w/ Bud if that is what you like inasmuchas those who would prefer a craft selection.

I bet those same restaurants ONLY get their food from local farms and like to support small businesses. The nerve, huh?

66 million people voted for Hillary Clinton. 63 million people voted for Donald Trump. Depending on your political leanings, you believe that over 60 million people were really, really wrong.
Don't feel bad; I believe over 120 million were wrong
