Where in the hell are you finding decent stuff in Spring? The only place I found that didn't lottery bottles was Spring Liquor on 2920.

Gents if you see one of these do not pass it up - excellent pour. Chocolate and a super smooth finish with cinnamon oak and fruit. Very enjoyable.

Inspired by Epic’s endorsement of River Roots I found a 7 year, also picked up a 6 year Old Scout Rye Ohio pick for a side by side. Both are very good, however River Roots is smooth with a unique flavor profile. There is a note on the finish that I haven’t had before, whatever it is, it’s fantastic. Will go back for a backup.

Good evening. Almost lost this one. Dropped on ceramic tile from chest high. It's a case that slides out from the bottom instead of the side. I won't forget next time.

This is excellent drinks far better than a 4 year. Carmel, nutty, cherry, oak, herbs, and a dash of lemon. Finish is short but flavorful. If you ever get to New Riff pick this one up. Cheers

Speaking of, I have this fresh crack that I got in this week. This is another 11.5 year MGP 95/5 Rye SiB.

I cannot find that one, I may head up to their distillery today to get another rye, and try their single barrel bourbon. I’m curious if you are picking up a unique flavor note on the finish. Specifically, I am but cannot make it out. At first I thought it was bubble gum but it’s not. It’s sweet with herbal notes it’s not fruit. It has to be something coming through due to the blend. Never had it before but I enjoy it. Have been back twice to figure it out. I have a friend coming over that can pick out everything, hopefully I will know this weekend.

The bottle I posted was a single barrel picked by a group, it has since sold out. It is a super off profile MGP rye, leathery, almost tastes Sherry finished, with a ginger-like effervescence. Rye spice is there on the backend, but if I had this blind I don’t know if I’d even guess it was rye.

River Roots also has some crazy stuff like 14 year bourbon that has been aged in a port barrel for 6 years.

I did buy the first River Roots bottle that I posted straight from them, that is also a fantastic rye, but is more in line with what you expect from 95/5, it is very sweet though. Herbal, almost licorice, tea, with a bit of backend spice. It definitely leans to sweet over spice though.

Thanks for your response, your description of licorice tea is very close, that may be it, I never put the two together before, need to go back in. I’m anxious to try their bourbon which I’ll be getting a bottle today or tomorrow. Cheers!

Visited River Roots today and picked up a rye (11 year) and an interesting bourbon (14 year). Will crack the bourbon later.

Good evening. I wasn't sure if wines unlimited made willett picks again, but the question has been answered. There's an 11 year bourbon as well. It's 110 proof and retail is over 400 so I don't think you'll see much of a secondary market.

Someone said the guy making the picks left so it'll be interesting to see what impact that has on the selections.

Nice. A random 3 ounces for me tonight. Not my favorite but it’s been in the cabinet a while and I need to finish it. Got a decent amount of flavor. Wild turkey 101 old fashion for Mrs Iwy.

Nice pickups man! The 11+ year old ryes have been awesome. Let us know how that bourbon is once you pop it. It’s gotten good reviews from what I’ve seen. It’s dark as hell.

Thanks, the Rye comes from the same mash bill as the “Funky Monkey” pick, just a different barrel. Based on the sample I tried, the 14 year bourbon is outstanding!! I plan to crack it tonight with some friends. I spent time with one of the owners while at River Roots, they work with MGP, but also work with multiple distilleries to source barrels. He would not divulge who the distilleries are, but I believe one is Willett. They had seven or eight different bottles available for sale, I think I got two of the better ones. Epic, thanks for introducing me to these guys!!!!

The 3 that I know they source from are MGP, Barton, and Jim Beam (the "mystery mashbill" that came out about 4 years ago 78.5/13/8.5 has been verified to be produced by Jim Beam). They probably source from others as well.

Glad you are enjoying their offerings, they seem to be sourcing high quality whiskey.
