I was feeling this same vibe. Yesterday’s $50 bottles are now $80 and previously $80 bottles are now $110. I find myself buying more barrel picks of $55-$70 price ranged bottles. These bottle is the $100-$120 range are good but just feel overpriced on the quality of the juice. It seems like some distillers are just trying to cash in on the bourbon craze by asking for $25- $35 more than they should but every market has its limits. Maybe it’s starting to peak?

And yet I awoke this morning to a report on the local Dallas TV station showing 500 people camped out in 33 degree weather to be in line at Specs for a multi bottle drop of allocated stuff.

I think it has peaked and is on the very slow decline. Prices a year and a half ago were significantly higher on secondary for many allocated bottles. You'll still see ridiculous prices today but they're lower on average. You'll also notice things sitting on shelves that haven't been there for a while.

Speaking of the market still being out of control, my first pour was Weller 12 at a restaurant (haven't seen on a shelf in 7 or 8 years). Second is a NOBF pick

Of all the bottles I got the other day the one that was higher than MSRP was the RR pick it was $92 and I didn’t care cause it was 10years old and I love Camp Nelson barrels. Forgot to mention Liquor Barn had a glass case full of Four Gate stuff that was marked down from $229 to $179 and said final discount. At least 20 bottles worth. The receptionist at my kids orthodontist texted and wanted to know of a good $175 bottle they were getting him whiskey for Xmas. I said don’t do that get two bottles for less money, cause that price range is not high value. I recommended Bardstown Origin BIB and JD SBBP Rye. I agree the cracks are starting to show in the market, but the BTAC stuff will stay fully retarded for the foreseeable future.

Grabbed and cracked these yesterday. Fantastic for their prices. Didn't see any Nashville Barrel that I was interested in. I may check again before heading home next week.

I did run into some JD10, JD12, EC18...shop was wanting damn near $300 for each. I just shook my head and walked out. Sad to see those prices for JD in the local market.

I cracked that Holladay soft red wheat a week ago. Very nice pour especially for the price. Got it in NOLA.

Hopefully Old Forester 1920 stays at $60. It's one of the best values right now

My buddy just grabbed me a bottle of this from Texas at $65. I currently have one and it’s a great rye. I tasted it in a blind to the Special Release Rye with a friend and it didn’t beat it out but it did hold its own. For $65 at 129 proof it’s a steal and a definite addition to the cabinet.
