Why the bourbon we drink isn't what it used to be

Good read about the declining quality of the regular brands, rebranding and super premium and expensive bourbons and the trends.

Good read. After grabbing the OWA in your neck of the woods, I came back and scooped up the last 2 WL 12's from a local store, and their bourbon guy was telling me he's not optimistic about getting more 12, and has had OWA on back order for months, thinking he's not getting that anytime soon either.

Yeah, those are both getting harder and harder to find. We've had the OWA in many of the stores, but the WL12 has been backordered for months.

WL 12? Is that the Weller 12 year? If so, picked up a bottle yesterday. Guess it is suppose to have the same mixture as Pappy's. It was ok, not sure I like bourbon with that much wheat in it. Too smooth maybe.

I enjoy the high rye mix like Basil Haden and Brek.

Yes, that's the one. It is a wheated bourbon similar to Pappy. You just have to try a bunch of different ones to find out what your preferences are. If you like higher rye, try the 4 Roses line. The small batch and single barrel are both very good values.

I came across this pic and figured it would be interesting to post here.

I know several people have asked about several of these in the past and it often works that if you like one in the category, there's a decent chance you'll like the others.

Everyone must still be hungover from the holidays

Nothing rare, and no pattern to the madness, but here's today's haul:

There may have been another ECBP release, a couple of the guys on BX are seeing it on shelves again.

I'd buy em all at this price... Love that stuff

Yeah, it seems they'll continue to cherry pick the barrels and keep doing the releases at regular intervals. Heaven Hill is no longer going to offer the EC12 as part of the single barrel program and it seems to be to ensure they'll continue to have some good honey barrels to preserve for the really old ones and the ECBP. Reportedly, they will also be re-releasing the EC18 within the next year or two as well, but definitely won't be as sweet of a price point as it used to be.

Makes sense... I hope ECBP becomes more readily available this year.

Ec18 is good stuff, I remember getting it for less than $50 at Marcellos 2 yr ago. I'm sure it'll be in the $70 range now

Yeah, likely to be $70-$90 when it comes out again. They pulled it from the market for a while to not make it seem as drastic of a price rise, reportedly.

Not yet, but after seeing their pic on facebook with the BTAC and Pappy, it should be a good time

Yeah I'm gonna make a drive down there soon to check them out. Hopefully their BTAC is reasonably priced
