No problem. Glad the Christmas gift my 6yr old sent to his cousin made it in tact.

My girlfriend got me some ice sphere molds for Christmas. They're in the freezer now. Looking forward to trying them out after work!

I forgot that I had gotten one of those spirit aerators. I'm a fan of the wine version for when I don't have time to let a bottle breathe before pouring. Does this work for bourbon?

Excuse my ignorance but what exactly does "letting a bottle breath" mean?

I have a wine aerator that I may try to use if it's worth the time.

That too but I can't seem to find it for less than 60 around here in the Houston area.

Probably my ignorance. I was referring to aerating wine. I've always been told to let a good bottle of wine "breathe". I think it is accomplished through pouring , swirling, etc... I have one of those aerators and it honestly does seem to help with wine. I was just curious if can get similar effects on bourbon.

Yes, they make a spirit aerator which is a bit different than the wine aerator (I won't pretend to know the difference), but I just got one and definitely helps with bringing out the subtle flavors of the whiskey.

Be safe and have fun, my bearded brother!

After seeing 25 patients in the hospital today and just finishing notes from home, time for some bourbon!

This stuff is delicious. Nose has some black cherry notes, nutmeg, tobacco, and some mild oak notes. Taste is very nice with the fruit up front, butter and wood notes, then ends with the spice of the rye. Finish has more of the rye notes and is of moderate length. I'll definitely get another bottle on my next trip to Louisiana.

2nd pour of the night:

This one left me disappointed. This is one of the small batch younger aged bourbons and it shows. Nose has lots of grain, little bit of pepper and mild vanilla. Taste is a little bitter with the graininess, and there's not much complexity with some mild vanilla notes. Finish is fairly short and mostly bitter grain taste and a little wood taste. For a bit over $30, this is one I'll skip on from now on. Likely will use more as a mixer.

Last pour of the night:

After the Cody Road disaster, I decided to go with a tried and true, guarantee. Ah, things are much better now. However, since I seem to be the only one drinking in this thread tonight, I guess it'll be time to call it a night after this one

You weren't drinking alone. The Information Superhighway seemingly ends somewhere in rural MS short of where I am and I can only post when I'm on an elevated deer stand. I'm really enjoying my Poor Man's Pappy, thinking I'll be grabbing more 107 on my way back.
