Which would you buy: A RecTec at full price or a discounted Traeger?

I have a friend in the industry who can get me a Traeger Pro34 for about $200 less than list price.
Or I’m looking to buy a RecTec at full price.
The 340 is $600 and the 590 is $900.
Does anyone have the RecTec 340 and is it big enough? Probably wouldn’t be cooking for a lot of people often so this would be more for 2-4 people.
Both grills have great reviews but RecTec seems to be a favorite on this board.

You really cannot go wrong with either one. I have cooked on the Traeger many times with zero issues. A good friend of mine chose the Rec Tec over the Traeger. I have cooked on it multiple times with great results.
If you can get a deal on a Traeger I would go with it but either grill you'll be getting a great product.
The 340 is plenty large if you dont cook for large parties. It easily fits a full packer brisket.

I heard traeger quality went down when they shifted production to China

I have had a traeger for about 3 years now, I use it multiple times per week and have had zero issues with it.

I bought a rectec 590 about a month ago. I love it so far. Heats up quick and seems to be good at holding a very consistent temp

I’ve had the 590 since, probably, April. I love it. Plenty of room for my family of 4. I can’t speak to the Traeger, as the RT is the only pellet grill I’ve owned, but I don’t regret buying the 590.

I've got the Rec Tec Bull. You will not regret it. Best warranty, customer service, and build quality. Just do this tomorrow call Traeger and talk to their customer service about their grills then call Rec Tec. Night and day!

quote:Traeger customer service is arse. I purchased one last August and had issues with the thermocouple. I called customer service and was told the part was backordered and they didn't know when it would be back in stock. Basically told me I was SOL until they made more. Didn't give me an option to exchange the grill for a new one or anything. I called my local store where I purchased it and returned it that day.
