Does anyone KNOW where I can buy pork belly around Lafayette? I'm trying to make homemade bacon.

I plan to cold smoke and have it cook as needed like store bought bacon is. I have read and talked to alot of people on smoking forums about it for a while now. I have made several hams, canadian bacon, alot of smoked sausage, summer sausage, and jerky, all cured. I just can't find a place to buy the belly to make bacon. I might just get a boston butt and make buckboard bacon this weekend.

I'm not in Laffy, but I found some at a Messican grocer in BR when no one else had it.

There's a La Morenita Mexican Grocery/Meat Market in Laffy that should have it. Google it.

Oh if Lafayette has one that's where to go. I bought a couple at the one here in BR for $2.29 lb. problem I had was it needed to really be shaped up and trimmed but worth it. I had to ask for a fresh not frozen and he cut it off the whole hog right there.

Yeah that's pretty good even if it requires a little trimming. That doesn't take too long. Beats the heck out of the $6.99/lb at whole foods.

Best Stop.

I bought some recently to make some cracklins at home. It's got to be the same cut you are looking for.
