I don't get the hype for Chuy's; it's an average Tex-Mex place.

Also, Lafayette has always been big on chains.

Cause Lafayette has zero Tex mex options so average is setting the bar

People who live inside city limits do a good job of supporting local restaurants. It's the people that drive in from Duson, Crowley, New Iberia, etc on the weekends that opt for chains in huge numbers.

That's true but even people within Lafayette eat at chains a lot. It's not a big deal, just is what it is. Lafayette still has solid local places, and Cajun cuisine is one best done at home.

I lived within walking distance of a Chuy's in Texas for a year and went twice. Tex Mex is boring to me, though, so I'm probably not the best judge.

Agreed, but Id rather die a slow death with poison than go downtown.

Really? I love living close and going to downtown area.

Describes my in-laws. Venture to Lafayette for a meal only to eat at TX Roadhouse or Olive Garden. I don't get it.

Lafayette is the big city to them. So are restaurants named that they chose to eat in.

So have you had other Tex Mex that is definitely better than Chuy's or do you just not like it at all?

Its above average. We hit the one here in Dallas from time to time and I always enjoy what I get.

Is there a Gloria's in Lafayette or are you talking about the Dallas area restaurants? Because there is definitely better Tex Mex in Dallas than Chuy's, but like Zappas said, it's above average and I've always enjoyed myself there.

I don't live in Lafayette and haven't for awhile. I have recently lived in Austin and Fort Worth.

I think Chuy's is average, sorry. I also think Joe T Garcia's in Ft Worth is awful.

My question is do you like any Tex Mex at all? I'm trying to find out if you don't like Tex Mex as a whole or are just really anti-Chuy's.

Whats your favorite Mexican place in either Fort Worth or Austin?

I think there are a number of places better than Chuy's, including Gloria's and Uncle Julio's (both places with numerous locations like Chuy's).

I can think Chuy's is average AND think Tex-Mex is boring.

Of course, just trying to get a feel for what you like. I'd take Chuy's over both those options, but to each his own

We have eaten at Maya's Mex Grill three times and I can say try it. La Pagua is our friend too and both have been consistently good.
