Check out the steak menu at La Boca in NOLA. It's not boring.

I think that's a fair point. There's not much you can do to mask a bad steak, short of covering it with hollandaise or crab meat.

Again, it's not that I think steakhouses are bad, I just don't tend to go to them. And I feel like any decent steakhouse is going to be just about the exact same experience as it would be at any other steakhouse. Even the menus tend to carry most of the same items, with an exception here or there.

I guess that's why I think it would be hard for me to create my own "Mount Rushmore" of steakhouses. They all pretty much blend together in my mind.

I love La Boca
I’m with what others have said. I rarely go out to eat for steaks. It’s just so easy to buy an awesome cut of meat from the store and grill it.

If I eat beef at a restaurant it's usually raw. I like ordering the fresh/whole fish special at places, hell I ordered the whole fish last time I went to Cochon.

I've never had a bad steak at Ruth's Chris. They are a bit pricey and everything is ala carte, but even the sides are very good.

I sort of agree with that statement. I’m curious to see the stats about the millennial generation and steakhouse sales.

I find 90% of them to be the exact same. I mean, it’s a steak. It’s kind of hard to mess up.

Quality of beef makes a difference. Grass fed vs corn fed. Dry-aged vs wet-aged. Aging time. The marbling on Wagyu is ridiculous. Try eating at an Outback and then try eating at a high end steakhouse. Impossible not to notice the difference.

Ok well I didn't feel like I had to add the clarifier that I'm referring to nicer/higher end steakhouses and not places like Outback. Clearly there is a difference between those. Frankly, even with "steakhouse" in the name, I wouldn't consider Outback a steakhouse.

But fine, I'll rephrase. I feel like 90% of higher end steakhouses (think Ruths, Mortons, Sullivans, etc. as the baseline and move upwards from there) to be the same.

All of the other things I mentioned can make a huge difference along with the chef/cooking method.

I guess those differences don't tend to move the needle too much for me. As I've said, it's not that I dislike steakhouses. I just never walk away thinking "wow that was an incredible meal."

However, it's not often that I walk away upset with my meal either, because any higher end steakhouse will put out a good steak. So there's certainly something to be said for consistency.

I see what you're saying, but I've been to shitty prime steakhouses.

Regardless, that "same experience" at elite steakhouses is awesome IMO.

Whereas I find the dining you enjoy to be worth the occasional experience, but in reality it's a novelty to me.
