What's the difference between raw honey and any other honey?

got an offer for "raw, unfiltered, unheated" honey. Is it better than whatever i have in my cupboard? The girl selling it is kinda cute so I'm tempted to buy.

It's not super important to me that the honey I buy is "raw". It's incredibly important to me that it isn't filtered. Most of that shite is untraceable Chinese garbage.

the raw part only really matters if you are using for any health benefits or fermentation

raw honey will still have its natural yeast

A lot of people buy local honey for their allergies. Once you start straining it and filtering and pasteurizing it, you kill and remove everything that those people want. And it pretty much just is sweet.

If your cute girl is the beekeeper, then go ahead and buy her high priced honey. Unless you want to buy Chinese corn syrup cut crap. But make sure she has enough hives to cover what she's selling. A ton of those people have 1 hive and sell a few hundred hives worth of honey. So they're out there buying it from others. Which kind of defeats buying from her.

I buy local "raw" honey and I think it has helped with my allergies, but I could just be imagining that. I do think it taste better than the regular, mass produced honey. I do eat about a quart jar per month and at about $17/ jar it aint cheap. I've thought about keeping my own hives but haven't jumped into that yet.

I believe it's mostly a myth/placebo. It's always best closest to the source so local raw is still the way to go.

Not true. In 2018, Only about 7% of imported honey was from China.

You can go to the allergist and they will mix a liquid of all the allergens in the area. You can then put a couple drops in your mouth everyday for 2 years. Your body reacts to the allergens and it’s supposed to make your body used to them.

I would assume honey works the same way. You’re putting the local allergens into your body and your body can get used to them. However, my belief has always been if you have to take the allergist drops daily for 2 years, I would guess you have to take honey everyday for 2 years as well in order to see a difference.

I think the theory is correct but the reality is not practical. But I’m not an allergist.

One legitimate fear is that countries like China use the ultra-filtration or ultra-purification processes to mask the origin of the honey, which is then transshipped [sent to an intermediate country and relabeled as a product of that country to disguise its real origin] and sometimes mixed with a small amount of pollinated honey, from say India, to throw off testers. Sometimes Chinese honey is cut with much cheaper corn syrup or fructose syrup to enhance profit margins, and sometimes Chinese producers even feed corn syrup to the bees to get it into the honey more “naturally.” The importation of Chinese honey was specifically banned because it is so often adulterated.

Still no data on how much of that shite is from China to back up your statement.

Raw honey doesn't get upset when I forget to take out the garbage.
