Most of the normal brands have Christmas gift packaging going on right now. Makers Mark, Makers 46, Woodford, Knob Creek, Crown etc. I usually get my dad one of those around Christmas. They'll come with a couple of smaller glasses, or a bottle stopper, or a nice single glass. I know Makers 46 had the bottle stopper gift box last time I was in a liquor store.

Is it your sister's husband or your wife's brother? Need specifics for a more curated suggestion.

Do you have a liquor store you trust? I would try and determine a price range ahead of time and go and ask them.

The last bottle I bought for a friend was Michters. The last bottle I received as a gift that I really liked was Rowan's Oak. I'm not a connoisseur so others will likely have better suggestions.

For stuff like this I like a bottle that's solid and has nice presentation.

Makers always presents nice w wax..maybe a makers 46 although its on the lower end..a makers private select would be excellent here and around $70

Bookers is in that range, usually highly regarded and coming in a wood box is a nice touch for a gift

Woodford double oaked is around the range and a good elevation of a super well known product

The ones I listed should all be easy to find and have mass appeal imo for someone who's specific taste you don't know

Bookers
Willett 4 year rye
Elijah Craig barrell proof
Old Forester 1910
Angel's Envy Rye

In that order as you can find them.

4 Roses Single Barrel
Bakers
Angels Envy Rye (Though this runs around $80)
Elijah Craig Barell Proof (this is high proof, so not recommended for the casual whiskey drinker)

I suggest the 4R single barrel personally. For the price ($45) it is very difficult to beat.

Regarding others' suggestions, Makers and Woodford are good bourbons, but they are very common. To me, a Christmas gift shines when it is something different than the norm. Plus I think that 4R is superior to those. Stay away from Ryes as they are spicy and not liked by all whiskey drinkers (Angel's Envy is the exception, because it drinks surprisingly sweet). That Bookers is difficult to find and will run you $90.

4R SiB and bakers are great ones I left off, but

What area? I haven't seen it on the shelf in the Metairie and Northshore areas for quite some time. I did see 2 different MS stores with it on Friday though with one at $85 and the other $95. At $70 I would definitely buy it.

Shreveport... I can name at least 2 or 3 stores off top of my head that have it on the shelf now (mostly boston batch I believe) in the $70-80 range...but I believe closer to $70

Bought my buddy a bottle of a Blanton’s when he got engaged a few years ago. It was only about $65 or so, but that’s been 5-6 years. I don’t drink bourbon anymore, but I think it’s a little more expensive now than it was then.

I'll second the Blanton's recommendation. I've always enjoyed it when I've had it and I like the presentation. Of course I tend to like anything out of the Buffalo Trace distillery.

If you can casually find blantons in the shelf these days, I'd be impressed

My suggestion would be either Elijah Craig Barrel Proof (~$70) or Four Roses Small Batch Select (~$55). Both are solid bottles. A single barrel store pick from a local store would be another good option.
