Ruby Tuesday salad bars as well. I haven't been to a Shoney's in a long time, but they always had it too. Grocery Store salad bars have it when they have a full salad bar.

French dressing reminds me of my childhood growing up in the late 80s-early 90s. That was the only dressing my mom would buy.

They had a kid at Stanislaus named Al, one year above me. Made honor roll.
They took us all, once every 9 weeks, to a Pizza Hut buffet for it.
Al ate 27 pieces of pizza, drizzled French on them all. That was in the 90's.

Ranch has only been around South Louisiana since probably the mid 70's. It became popular to me during high school. Prior to that none of us knew anything about it.

It was only available as Hidden Valley Ranch dressing packets (add buttermilk) when it was first introduced. Shelf stable bottled Ranch didn't come out until 1983. My "always" is longer than yours.
Also, since "shelf stable" was part of the timeline I was reading, not sure if that means it was bottled in some form prior to that. But that's when its popularity exploded.

I honestly forgot about French dressing. I think as a youngster it was my favorite.
I would agree with Darla, I don't remember seeing Ranch until the mid 80s.
I assume the Ranch explosion stole the French crowd.

The last time I saw it was on the salad bar at Sarah's in Grand Isle. Maybe 12 years ago. You are right. It used to be on every salad bar.
Maybe it fell out of favor when we got back to rightfully hating the French. You know, Freedom Fries and such.

I remember in college we´d use Catalina to marinate London Broil for a day or two (prior to cooking).

There are variations of french (creamy french) that include mayo, but the huge majority of the bright orange dressings I recall did not have mayo as an ingredient.

Except, I've been to France a couple of times and never seen anything at all akin to it there.
I actually love the stuff (although not on pizza in Biloxi or otherwise) and am sort of sad to know if its demise. Don't really care fr Ranch at all.
