What happened to Ichiban in Gonzales?

They spent a ton of money on renovations to the existing building the occupied and then opened but never appeared to be busy. I’d eat lunch there time to time because I worked not far from there and it was good but certainly not cheap.

Then they started doing specials of all kinds to try and drum up business.

And then Covid.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they took their ball and went home on that location.

I'm a big fan of the happy hour at the one in Baton rouge. I happened to be out that way needing to kill some time about a year and a half ago, and stop for happy hour. They said they did not have happy hour there, nor any specials

Most people around there go for the hibachi and and Hello Tokyo puts out a better product in that regard in my opinion. Maybe people were just more loyal to Hello Tokyo but I doubt that’s the reason. Ichiban was a tad more expensive for hibachi and I don’t think it was any better. I’m not a big sushi guy so they may have better sushi but I wouldn’t t know. The couple of rolls I usually get at Hello Tokyo were good.

I go to Oki Japan all the time for the all you can eat sushi. It's terrible shite but still a guilty pleasure of mine. It's always busy with the locals.

not arguing that, but both do fried seafood well and is what their base is looking for

After posting I checked out their menu pricing online. I think the price difference is a huge factor. $7-10 more for the same entree’s at Ichiban. You had better be putting out a product that is much better if you open up a business directly across the street from your competitor and charge higher prices for similar food.

We went twice for dinner and were unimpressed both times, weren’t many people there either time
