I went there around Easter time this year and the food was horrible. Cold and mushy with little flavor other than butter. Family member went today for brunch with friends and said it was borderline inedible. I know they switched chefs last year, but has something changed in the past 6 months? Or is she just really struggling with full capacity post covid restrictions?

Full disclosure, CP has never been my favorite, but I acknowledge that it’s an institution and loved by many.

Are you being a touch dramatic with borderline inedible?

I don’t doubt staffing both front and back plus sourcing may be impacting quality… but I don’t think it’s that bad

Just curious, when your food was confirmed to be “cold, mushy, or inedible”, did you ask to speak with the executive chef to point out the unsatisfactory dish ? If you truly had a problem with the food and actually spoke to the EC, I’m sure they would have taken care of you and fixed the issue. Personally if I’m paying for Commander’s food & prices, and get served McDonalds quality I’m asking for the manager.

I was a guest of someone when I went so I didn’t want to say anything since I wasn’t paying. It’s possible I just had a bad one off experience.

Was just seeing if anyone else noticed a difference.

I ordered the Cochon eggs Benedict. Not sure what they ordered today.

I’ll say I wouldn’t use eggs Benedict over Easter brunch during a pandemic as a barometer of the new chef.

It’s a dish that even at its peak is only about 30 seconds away from being a bit of a mushy (but still tasty) mess. Especially with the cochon add on.

I know that is kind of letting them off the hook but the specific dish and setting lends itself to your feedback likely both being fair but at the same time not a huge red flag either

Good point, I think they have earned the benefit of the doubt too.

Soft bread, soft eggs, soft meat, all in sauce. That would explain the "mushy" comment but that doesn't excuse the "cold" remark. I hate receiving cold food when it's supposed to be hot.

I have been several times since the new chef took over. I have not noticed a decline in the quality of the food, but I have noticed that things don't taste quite as heavy as they used to. That doesn't bother me, but the staples do taste different.

We've had one service hiccup that was noticed and remedied without us saying a word. Friends had a poor service experience Friday. But I do know they are struggling with staffing like everywhere else.

Did you notice the huge "NOW HIRING" sign in front? Everyone seems to be having issues.

Commmander's Palace, as much as any restaurant in this city, relies on highly skilled and coordinated kitchen and wait staff. They should remain closed until they can execute properly.

Commanders Palace employees over 150 people. It costs them money to stay closed. Your suggestion is for them to stay closed until they can fully operate with their typical staffing? This could take years with our currently employment landscape..in which case they would be out of business from just staying closed.

My last visit was a few months pre-covid, it was a disappointment compared to previous visits.

Their interior decoration is bordering comical. Like someone's crazy aunt's house.
