I think it’s just the oil getting too hot but not sure

It’s just oil that’s polymerized same as when you season cast iron. You can leave it alone or scour it off it won’t affect cooking either way

I wanna say oil or butter will do that if it gets very hot. But it easily comes off with a quick scrub from these.

boil some water with vinegar in it first, then I would use Barkeepers Friend on a green Scotch Brite. Just as poster above said, it's burned, polymerized oil, no biggie. That's the beauty of SS that it will come off relatively easily.

I’ve seen many people say this and I’ve seen a number of “sure fire” methods to supposedly do it.

I’ve tried any number of them and I have yet to find removing that shite to be anything but a massive pain in the arse, no matter what I do.

As others suggest, I just mostly learn to live with it as it doesn’t really affect anything but how the pan looks.

Barkeepers friend will work, but it needs elbow grease. If that fails use oven cleaner outside.

Those scotch brite stainless pads work well. Just go easy as they are aggressive.

I just use Brillo pads on my stainless steel cookware. I'll get a look similar to that at times and Brillo pads take it right out and a quick rinse with hot water and they're good as new..

Suggestion: Just season the thing and be done with it. If you don't like how that looks, ignore this suggestion.

The other posters have good ideas to clean them. It's stainless steel. Don't use anything that'll scratch the surface if you don't have to. A quick lye solution will take any organic material off.

With stainless steel and cast iron, I've learned to get some heat in it first. Like 300F heat before I add anything other than vegetables.

Just for fun, I guess you sprayed the skillet with cooking spray first. Most of us have done it.

No, I heated it up and then used olive oil.
