Funny story, well wife didn't think so.
Christmas morning years ago, she unwraps the 75th anniversary model Kitchen Aid mixer, the one she had circled in the Williams Sonoma catalog.
She gives me the dirtiest look. And says, "has this has been here the whole time? You let me make 48 dozen cookies by hand last week!" I replied, "I didn't want to ruin the surprise."
The mixer and marriage are still going strong 27 years later.

Had something similar happen a few years back. Wife had told me a few different things she had been wanting, said pick one. Of course being the good husband that I am, I got 2 of the 3 things she wanted, and had planned on getting the third one later, probably Valentine's Day. None of them were super expensive or anything, but we usually agree to get each other 1-2 nice gifts and the rest are stocking stuffers. I find the exact model and color of this coat she wanted, in her size, and ordered it. Of course it arrived a few days later, and this was middle of December. Also this was when we were both still working full time jobs, so she had to deal with a daycare dropoff on her commute while I had a school dropoff on mine. It gets really cold for Birmingham in December, like morning lows in the teens for several days on end, and the afternoons/evenings it hadn't warmed up much. Mid to high 30s. Never any snow, but you get the idea. Christmas morning rolls around and it is warm again, hitting mid 60s every day. She opens the big box that had been wrapped and under the tree for two weeks and at first she loved it, then she said something similar, like why didn't you let me unwrap this two weeks ago when I needed it.

My parents are the king/queen of getting me something utilitarian that I need ASAP and forcing me to wait until Christmas. I used to go through half the winter without a coat because I couldn’t have it until Christmas!
Edit - Ha. Person above me’s wife understands.

Exactly. My wife has been ordering several things lately, mostly Christmas gifts, but also some new clothes since the kids need stuff for cool weather. She threw in a new hat and gloves for her on one order. She tried them on the other day, and said I could put them in her stocking this year, but she was wearing them until then.

If you're in a bind get it. It's expensive so she won't be able to give you shite about it out of principal. Same goes for new iphones, jewelry, etc. If you just want to get her a gift to check the box, always bite the bullet and get her something expensive.

I use my Artisan Kitchen Aid stand mixer all the time. My only regret is the color; for some reason I wanted a red one all those years ago, and I would love to trade it in for a white, copper, or navy one. Oh well; c’est la vie!
You can get all sorts of attachments for future gifts as well (pasta maker, meat grinder, sifter/scale, etc.).

Lot of YouTube videos out there. That is what I did. Parts were not expensive. I did not mess with the tilt lock, but that is probably where you issue is. Can’t be too hard to fix.
