Down in Terrebonne/Lafourche, we use the same dip for crawfish with shrimp and crab as well. Everyone has their own little recipe, but for the most part it’s all similar. Some have compared it to Cane’s sauce, but it’s far less tangy.
To those who poop on the way we do things down the bayou, I say (kindly), stay in your lane.

Many folks use and enjoy dips of various mixtures. It also matters where and when you grew up. I didn't grow up eating crawfish with dip so it was foreign to me when it first cropped up. Other folks grew up with dip and that's the way they eat crawfish.
Some folks grew up with red jambalaya. Others grew up eating only brown jambalaya. Eat it the way you enjoy it.

I don't like crawfish dipped in anything (the fat is so good I don't want to cover it up), but I love the boiled potatoes with the Canes type dip. Yum.

do you dip shrimp?
Shrimp is merely a vessel for consuming copious amounts of cocktail sauce because I'd look like a mongoloid if I just ate it straight up with a spoon.

Boiled shrimp have always come with a "dip" though it's cocktail sauce
I generally don't have a dip with shrimp or crawfish but some melted butter or Wowee sauce is nothing I'll turn my nose up at.
4-5 crawfish tails with a little dip on a cracker is a delightful bite of food.
Eat what you like, people.

That sounds fine with some leftover tails! When I'm eating them boiled, I tend to go into some sort of strange speed eating, one right after the other and quickly. Somehow, I was conditioned that way. I have to remind myself to slow down.

We make dips with leftover crawfish tails or a bag of the tails, so tails in a dip mixture is not a bad thing to me. I just don't do it when eating them boiled. I love a good dip or spread made with crawfish tails.

If you’ve never had it, you could say it’s the inspiration for Cane’s sauce.
Cane’s/Zaxby’s/etc sauce/entire restaurant are all inspired by Guthrie’s. Graves even worked at a Guthries.

People still regurgitate this. As if even Guthrie's was the first to mix ketchup and mayo.

They definitely weren’t, but Zaxbys and Canes both exist because they ripped off Guthries.

It's definitely a regional thing, my parents are from Thibodaux & Raceland and I was born & raised in Lafayette, every seafood boil in these areas I've attended has a dip of some sort. Most people just use it for the potatoes or sausage or other sides but the occasional shrimp or crawfish dunked isn't half bad. Practically every place that serves boiled seafood around here offers some sort of premixed dip, or a DIY dip station.
My wife is from Metairie, she had never heard of such a thing and neither had anyone in her family either.

Or you LOVE mayonnaise and butter.
Aka catnip for fatties.

Fat people are not the only people who eat mayo and butter. FYI.

Why would I dip my crawfish in anything? They have been appropriately seasoned at every boil I have ever attended.

Damn. This dude is really offended that people are calling him out for needing sauce for his crawfish lol

I don’t give a shite how you eat your crawfish. I just don’t like uppity city people telling Cajuns how it’s “supposed to be done.”
I’ve never once had crawfish in the city that were exceptional. Whether at a restaurant or at someone’s house. Not once.

How do you know who is “city” and who is “Cajun” lol

Where is the “city” ?

It’s obvious you have some sort of little man syndrome when it comes to people living in the city. So of course you’re going to say “well yea I’ve never had good crawfish anywhere except for in da country!”
