and besides putting grill marks on some protein MAYBE, there isn't any cooking going on.

soooooo, the smoker they have out front is all for show? good to know. here i am getting smoked chicken and ribs from them and all they are doing is heating it up in a microwave. blast them to hell. i guess those big juicey burgers they sell are nothing more than fast food rejects. thanks for enlightening me with your great knowledge of a place you have never been.

Am Mart is far from being the best sandwich in Baton Rouge.

Truth. I can't take anyone who makes the claim that it is seriously.

As I said... They put grill marks on meat. WOW. Is that all you think is involved in cooking food?

Well hell, why would anyone like Sammys ever need a kitchen when they can just get a smoker out front instead?

And BTW... You're not cooking roast beef for poboys in a smoker. I'm not even saying that Sammys is. Hell, you can't even get Roccos to do that anymore, but I can tell you what is extremely unlikely, and that's that the Mobile Fillin Station in Central LA is.

wow, really? your knowledge is endless today. thanks for all the wonderful tips.

i didnt know the hours it took to smoke food was merely putting grill marks on stuff.

the endless hours i have wasted cooking ribs, chicken, boston butts, salmon, etc. on my smoker when all i was doing was adding grill marks.

thanks again for providing me with all this wonderful insight on a place you've never been.

Tell you what, and I'm an honest man. I will go to the Mobile Filling Station and see what's up next time I'm in Central, and I'm gonna ask them what's up, because that's how I roll. I don't care, and if I am wrong, which I would pretty much guarantee you that I am not, I will without a doubt come back to this thread and eat as much crow as you folks want to feed me, and then ask for more.

In any case, if I am wrong, which I'm not, it is truly a sad day in the world of Central when the best food you can get is from a flippin FILLIN STATION.

Dude, relax. You have never been there. I haven't either. How in the hell can you get so worked up about a place you've never been? And why a paragraph rant on fricking mashed potatoes?

Hey, I'm cool. I just think it's a joke, but it's not my problem.

It wasn't on mashed potatoes. It was on powder potatoes. There's a difference like the difference between milk and powdered milk. You know?

Come on, man. Don't play games. It was a rant comparing powdered potatoes to mashed potatoes. No worries.

For whoever said I can't be taken seriously because of a hyperbole remark about how much I enjoy Am Mart, I didn't realize only absolute truths were permitted on message boards. frick all.

I don't play games with food.

You can't compare the two. As I said, it's just like comparing powdered milk to real milk. Can you compare the two as if they were the same thing?

AM Mart isn't bad. At least they press their poboys. Is it the best one can do? Uhhhhh, not even remotely close, but bang for the buck it's decent, and that's why AM Mart is where it is, to capitalize on College kids, and good for them.

Never said I was humble here. I said I am honest, and if I am wrong I will tell you. You can count on that. However, be prepared for when I'm right too, because I will tell you that as well, and in extreme detail.

Well a few things I need to know about this thread.

First if you named a place how about naming what kind of frikkin food they have that is so good.

AM Mart doesn't count. Why? Well...because I said. And it is not near the best sandwich in town. Good. Yeah. Bout it.

I do believe it is Mobil, not Mobile.

And it has always been "convenience" store not convienent store.

Berthelots is s bar/boat launch/restaurant so it doesn't qualify for this thread although I've had many a good fried catfish there while watching rednecks really frick up their boats/cars while trying to launch.

Some may have pretty decent stuff but to say they are better than say Sammy's in general is just silly. Better burger? In your opinion ok. Better everything? You need to get out more and develop your palette. Or get a second job so you can afford to eat at better places and expand yourself.

Fried chicken at Shell Station Perkins/Oak Hills is good.

Don't see the love for the Shell at Highland/Country Club. Or the Texaco across the street.

Popingo's at Old Perkins and Airline (in front of On the Half Shell) does a good plate lunch with good burgers.

I don't buy anything from anyone if I have to get it through bullet proof glass.

Someone said V and P Seafood on Florida Street Mid City. Not a gas station but by far the best fried turkey wings in this city and beyond. Buy all your cash can handle because the pimps and hookers in the parking lot will want whatever you have left.

There's a Korean place in "downtown Plaquemine" that sells (or at least did when I was working on a job there 4 years ago) fried shrimp 3 for $1.25. A bit oversalted but they were jumbo size.

...I chuckled when I saw this post, if you're talking about the store a block from the city courthouse, that's my parents, Easy Shop...some of the best fried food you'll find.

Gotta love some New house ranch fries and ghetto punch from the Wing Shack...

If you're talking about the one on the left past the aster chevron, I agree with this. Always get the shrimp po boy.
The first few times I kept a pretty close eye on my car though.
