When you're one of four cities in the country that are eligible for consideration of Michelin stars, it's hard to be considered underrated.

I mean, I kind of get what he's saying. DC was considered a culinary backwater relative to its size and prominence for a long time. That has (obviously) changed.

Atlanta

Atlanta and Houston are only underrated by morons. Both are legit af especially for international options.

Most fairly large cities are going to have pretty great food nowadays. Hipsters have changed the game.

I think Atlanta is pretty generally underrated by national food publications and heavily on this site

Can't speak to the former, but you know people here can't look past their falcons hate to say anything good about the city of Atlanta.

I love the city though. I'll be back in October. Hopefully we have some playoff baseball or maybe delayed regular season baseball.

This for real
Riverfront and Dupuys would be ranked high in Lafayette and then Cajun Claws is one of the top 3 boiled crawfish spots
Suires is as good or better than any plate lunch spot in the state and Shucks and Hebert's steakhouse are pretty good also

These are all the places I had in mind

Birmingham has been considered one of the up and coming food scenes in the country for several years now.

Living in Birmingham, I didn't appreciate this until we started traveling. The more great food cities we go to, the more I appreciate living here.

Most people don't think of Michelin star restaurants when they partake in food scenes. You'd be doing yourself a disservice if you went to Houston with the mindset of fine dining.

I would say DC has no real identity food-wise and is primarily known to have places that cater to the movers and shakers. The reality is that DC has a ton of great casual places and does a good job of drawing influences from all over the place.

Agreed. If anything, we are overexposed at this point. And I love it here.

Somewhat related, Automatic is fantastic. I don’t think it has a realistic chance of winning best new restaurant in the entire country but it is a real honor to be nominated. And deserved in my opinion.

I’m a sucker for restaurants in Madison. All source local ingredients from farms and families from around the state — burgers, cheese curds, steak, etc., are all fantastic. Of course, can’t go wrong with the Friday Fish Fry!

There used to be a restaurant in Ensenada. Maybe it’s still there. They had chickens roasting over wood in the front window.

Four people. Two whole chickens. Fresh tortillas. Cold beer. Under $30 and it was fantastic.
