Bathroom--just have one. I don't sit when I piss so I don't really care what shape it is in.

Oh, it takes more than that. I've been in a bar where the toilets and urinals all overflowed, and there was about 2" of piss water on the bathroom floor.

So yeah, proper working plumbing is nice. And please have enough stalls/urinals so some drunk a-hole doesn't piss in the sink.

good beer with clean taps
good bartenders that recognize the regulars
jukebox is always a plus
place to sit down and watch the game
good food is always a plus

things i dont like

pool tables. you would be shocked if you knew me because i have a pool table and used to live in the poolhall like 4-5 days a week. loud drunk people thinking they can play pool in a bar is aggravating as hell.

I haven't opened it yet.

But, the more items on my list that apply, probably better the bar. For me, anyway. YMMV.

Yeah, good point. But, in that case I would just go outside. It's part of my water conservation plan.

I agree. It by no means needs to be the Ritz, but I'm too old for truly dirty restrooms. There's no fricking excuse for it and it adds no charm to the joint.

Speaking of old. at the earlier discussion regarding Finn's. I've only been there during what you may call "glassman hours" and it didn't seem like a particularly young crowd to me. And I am older than dirt. I call glassman "sonny".

I really like the Rendezvous, and in fact that is where we are heading with our friends and family that want to continue drinking after the reception ends. It has a decent amount of space and a jukebox that we can "takeover". Pool and darts are also good to have.

My favorite place right now is Radio Bar.
Pros:
A few blocks from my house
Good whiskey selection, good prices
Good beer selection
Good music, and I like the whole interaction thing.
NO SMOKING INSIDE.
Great space with the big open doors and big deck outside.
Shuffle board and pingpong
Always seems to be a food truck or hotdog stand outside.

Cons:
When it's really crowded, it takes a while to get a drink.
Nothing against gay people, but every now and then it feels
like gay and lesbian night.
No tv's. Not that I want to watch a game, but I like to check scores and updates.

Good lord that's a long list

quote:

Beer – Good, thoughtful selection of bottle and tap. Don’t need to go overboard on selection.

For me personally lately, I'm all about trying new beers so I like "beer bars" with a huge draft selection.

The Bar – Should be long, with plenty of sturdy barstools and a bar foot rail.

I'd like to add the hooks to hang your purse. I've only recently noticed their existence, but they're a life saver in a bar as a female. I generally sit at the bar, so it's nice to not have to put my purse on the bar or my lap or the floor.

This just seems like a bad thing to have sticking out of your bar. I'm going to mark a check in the "bad characteristics of a bar"

It doesn't stick out.

They're deep under the counter so when you're sitting at the bar, you can hang it instead of hold it. Not even noticeable unless you're looking.

Crowd mix is 25-55 probably. Just depends on time you go, but when I used to frequent there once every couple of weeks, it seemed they had a good handful of regulars that were always there. I'd say average age is 30-35.

Gotcha. Never noticed that either, but that does seem like a good idea. I know Choc always has a hard time figuring out what to do with his purse.

What can I say? I'm particular about my bars.

I left this one off because it doesn't affect me personally. Though, I'm quite positive my wife would include it.

1) Don't really care about the age range, I've been in bars where there were people anywhere from 21-70 years old and still had fun. Hell, I hope I can still dance like they do when I'm their age actually.

2) Decent beer selection. If I'm drinking just for the princile of drinking then who cares, the BMC will do. But if I want to hang out and try some different beers, I'd like the option.

3) Smoking. I like to smoke when I drink. All other public areas except casinos I'll give to the nonsmokers. But if I'm in a bar and drinking, I like to smoke.

4) Decent liquor selection. If I happen to not be in a beer mood, which is rare, I don't want to drink whatever crap whiskey you're offering and calling top shelf. Let a sister see an actual bottle instead of the liquor dispenser wand thing. Whatever it's called.

5) Music. As long as it's not that techno, fist pumping crap, I'm pretty much cool.
