Saying meat and 3 around here will get you nowhere
When I moved to nashville, I had never heard that expression before
But to answer your question, the best bbq places are Blue Oak and Central city
We dont really have those small hole in the wall lunch "meat and 3" places like you are thinking of

Similar concepts include the Hawaiian plate lunch, which features a variety of entrée choices but typically has standardized side items,[6][7] and the southern Louisiana plate lunch, which features menu options that change daily

Yeah we had plenty of these. And they came with 3 sides.

Zeeland Street Grocery is pretty solid.
EDIT: Market, not Grocery. Also, pot roast, mustard greens, green beans, and black eyed peas FTMFW.

A plate lunch is a rotating meal that consists of usually a protein and sides
Nothing rotates with a meat and 3(you always have choices. some places will rotate the choices based on availability)
You chose your meat, and you choose your side

David's Tiger Express in Central used to be great but I have not been in a while.

Picadilly would fit, so would any of our bbq places for the most part if all the OP wants is to chose his meat and sides.

interesting. I just figured cities the sizes of BR and NO --regardless of more desired culinary flair--would have a place or two where you went through a line and said I'll have this and that and then point, etc.
Well, if you are ever around Birmingham at lunch time head to Niki's West.

There's a couple of places in the NO CBD that sort of fit the bill for this. Commerce Restaurant and P&G come to mind.
