Friend,

How do you make friends? It's an honest question, a simple question, the type of question that seems silly at first. I was pondering this question as I cooked tonight. Making friends is not always easy, especially when one does not like being around others in the flesh. But sometimes the oddest and most unlikely of friendships are forged in the most unusual of places. I hope each of you will find an unlikely friend in the near future, because together, you make create a new existence, a new purpose, a new journey.

I have left over farm and sea foods from yesterday. Mother was supposed to eat with me tonight, but she decided, against my sternest protestations, to visit a friend to eat at her house. I had already prepared much of the food by the time she had told me. The red snapper from Uncle's acquaintance probably needed to be eaten today, so I cooked the remaining 23 oz in the same way as last night.

The sweetcorn from Cassebaum's farm is still taking space in the fridge, so I took it off the cob and tossed some green peppers of unknown type a neighbor left at our doorstep last week. It was alright, but I think the corn is a bit past its peak. I also chopped some okra, which came from a different friend of Uncle's who has a large farm and estate in Washington Parish Louisiana. The area is known for its watermelons, but I have never tasted any appreciable difference between a Washington Parish watermelon and any other parish's watermelons, so long as it is peak of the summer crop.

Blackening fish is my habit. I wish I was proficient at cooking fish in other ways, but when I veer from my familiarity, I often sink and ruin the white muscle. As you can probably tell by the picture, this fish was award winning. It reminded me of that late evening flare that pops just above the sun, as it falls below the horizon. So tastes this fish, followed by the soul-smoothing flavors of a calm turquoise watered sunset, rich in purple and pink hues.

God's great beneficence graced me once again this evening with this marvelous panoply of gifts from the sea and the soil. What a life!

The evening's meal, started and finished in solitude, except for brief words of gratitude to our loving Heavenly Father, was capped by more Sweet Home Farms cheese, the best American cheese available for purchase, only for those who know the owners and makers well. I even was able to accompany the Montabella cheese.

What a foretaste of heaven, my dear friends! May you each have beautiful meals.

Faith, Hope, and Love,

Leftover roast, baked potato (ruined by cheese that is past its prime), two tiny ears of corn from my son’s garden. Not kidding. Like four inches long. They’re learning a lot with their first garden, though.

What you seek is Tinder and not the food board. Do not fret. There is more cheese and preserves there than thee can even imagine. Fresh or aged, you will imbibe in the finest that the internet has to offer. The good folk of the food and drink board cannot steer you on your chosen path. Fate has decided that you stay on the OT and not cast thy light upon unworthy boards. Best.
